GUANGZHOU, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- Foreign trade in south China's Guangdong Province, the nation's key production and export base, declined 16.7 percent year-on-year in January, local authorities announced Friday.
"China welcomes the positive response from the Syrian government to Annan's proposal. At the same time, we urge the opposition to give a prompt and practical response to the peace plan, to create conditions for ending violence and initiating political dialogue," said a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman at a regular press briefing.
"Not only (do we need to) relieve poverty, but more importantly, we need to develop," said Cao Lili, an NPC deputy and director of civil affairs bureau from the northwestern Shaanxi province. "Poverty alleviation is a comprehensive project, which includes education, health care, and others."
The Hainan provincial marine and fishing department said all 8,994 of the area's locally-registered fishing vessels have been moored.
