SAN DIEGO, California — Two new charges have been filed in the case against a La Jolla restaurant owner accused of sexually assaulting multiple women.Authorities say five victims have now come forward claiming Daniel Dorado, 59, sexually assaulted them.The fifth victim came forward after last week’s arraignment, telling the San Diego Police Department about an incident that happened in 2014.Prosecutors say the assaults took place over a nine-year period beginning in 2009 and ending in January of 2018.Dorado pleaded not guilty earlier in April to 14 counts brought against him, including rape of an unconscious person.Dorado was arrested in March. One of his accusers claimed she was drugged and raped by Dorado three years ago at his Bird Rock-area restaurant Voce del Mare.Prosecutors in the case say two victims were sexually assaulted at the restaurant while three others were assaulted elsewhere. But with Toys R Us no longer in the picture, retailers are finding unique ways to cash in on the billion-dollar industry. Kids will always be drawn to play and make-believe. But for parents, it’s about helping Santa get the deals.“He loves to jump. He loves to run," Chedna Patin said. "So I think this will be a great play station for my baby,” she said while pointing at a piano toy.Patin said this year, she and her husband are buying their son’s holiday toys at a big box store.“Sam’s Club is majorly for groceries, buying bulk. But now as they are increasing their toy collection, I think for parents, it’s a good thing," Patin said. In fact, her one-year-old son Viann’s entire nursery came out of a Toys R Us catalog. But since the toy giant filed for bankruptcy earlier this year, she had to look elsewhere.Since 1948, Toys R Us has dominated the toy market-- last year claiming almost 5% of the .4 billion industry.  Now that they are gone, retailers like Sam's Club saw an opportunity.“We have added about 70 new toys this holiday season," Sam's Club member experience manager, Victor Aguilar said. “We have way more toys than before, that way [parents are] not running around everywhere trying to get their toys. So they can do a one-stop-shop here, buy their food, clothes, toys. They get everything.”Like their “try then buy” food model, Sam's Club is offering toy demonstrations for the first time, ever."We want kids to interact with them, and ask Santa for that gift," Aguilar said. (KGTV) - The VA San Diego Healthcare System began distributing its first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine Tuesday, Dec. 22.The VA received 2,800 doses of the Moderna vaccine, which is enough for their whole staff and everyone on their priority list. The first people to get the vaccine were people who either work or live in nursing care facilities and also people in the spinal chord injury unit. The VA anticipated being able to get all of those people vaccinated in the first day.Next for the VA are people in the ICU, emergency departments and those directly caring for coronavirus patients. It was estimated that all of those people should be vaccinated in the first day or two.Doctor Robert M. Smith is the director of VA San Diego Healthcare System and said their priority is getting people vaccinated quickly. He said they do not plan on saving any of the doses that are needed for a second vaccine 28 days after the first is injected. Rather, they will rely on the chain of command to get them those second doses in a timely manner, vaccinating as many people as they can in the meantime.“We and the rest of San Diego are seeing a huge increase in the number of COVID patients right now and it’s really straining resources so we need to make sure our staff can stay well so they can provide that care,” said Smith.Smith said they are starting with giving out 300 doses per day, hoping to be able to give up to 600 doses per day eventually. Once all staff are vaccinated in the next few weeks, the focus will be on the community and the 120,000 eligible veterans who are covered by the VA.He advised veterans in the community to not reach out to the VA, saying at first, the VA will be prioritizing some veterans and contacting those who are eligible, then eventually the VA will be more flexible with allowing other veterans to walk in and get the vaccine. 1888

(KGTV) -- A North San Diego County mother died early Sunday morning and the father of her children has been arrested, authorities said.San Diego County Sheriff's Department deputies responded to calls of a possible shooting just after midnight at a home on 25969 Duro Rd. in Valley Center, according to Lt. Chad Boudreau of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.When deputies arrived, they found an adult female suffering from a traumatic injury. The victim was rushed to Palomar Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries, said Boudreau.The victim was identified as Mayra Meraz, 31. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) --More homeless camps are popping up near a dog park in normal heights. Frustrated neighbors say they're leaving trash, dirt, and causing trouble."They frequent this little corner right here," said Bernie Polanco, who lives in the neighborhood.It's likely one of the first things you'll notice at the corner of 40th and Madison Avenue.  Trash, tarps, and blankets--all signs of homeless camps in the area."I really feel like it's hurting our community, hurting our little neighborhood," Polanco said.A neighborhood just down the street from the dog park at Ward Canyon Park.  There are mounting frustrations about more homeless popping up at this dead end street and bringing crime."They were trying to find unlocked cars," Polanco said.  The problem seems to be getting worse."One possible reason, neighbors say, is construction equipment from a city contractor and vehicles parked in the street that the homeless convert into living spaces."They would attach tenting and tarp(s) to the semi-trucks or the equipment, the tractors to make temporary shelters at night and before the workers would get here in the morning, they would tear them off," Polanco explained.The combination of so many young families and people walking their dogs add more concerns for neighbors."My radar is a little more attuned," said Jeremy Dawsey-Richardson, who lives in a white house on the corner.His house may be closest to the problem, but his attitude is far different. He has a unique perspective to this complex issue because he happens to work at the San Diego Rescue Mission downtown."I've spoken with the owner of those belongings and we've talked about it," Dawsey-Richardson explained.
