SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Police are searching for a mystery shooter that appears to using moving vehicles for target practice on a road in La Jolla.On Thursday just past 10 p.m. on La Jolla Parkway, Judy Chance was in her minivan running errands. It happened about a quarter mile from the fire station."Bang, bang, bang, bang. Basically all at once," said Chance.Her minivan was under attack."Enough to caused me to jerk back. When I looked, I saw circles in my windshield, like target practice," said Chance.On the windshield were at least six circles. Whatever caused them cracked but didn't puncture the glass."I was shocked. I was scared but had to regain composure as I was driving," said Chance.Chance pulled over and called police, feeling frightened, but grateful."Luckily I was going slow. I could have gone off the road. Glad my side window was closed," said Chance.Chance was not the only victim. Just minutes prior, in the same location, a couple driving a Mercedes says they heard a loud blast and saw a flash, before their windshield was pelted with shots. Some eight circles were found on their windshield. Was it a BB or pellet gun? One gun expert told 10news the flash and grouping may point to a shotgun, possibly loaded with birdshot. Chance says there were no vehicles around them, so the shooter may have been standing on the side of the road.Detectives say they don't have any suspect description. The tweet added, “It is always our goal to keep our communities safe.”Smith had been staying at a motel around the 78 corridor which caused concern for North County community leaders. “I just don't feel good about this situation,” said Melanie Burkholder, candidate for CA State Assembly's 76th District. “This is a very sick individual. He does not need to be roaming the streets,” she said Monday morning.The Orange County District Attorney's Office says Smith claims to have killed three boys and molested 200 others.San Diego County Undersheriff Mike Barnett spoke to ABC10 News on Sunday night. “He liked to be referred to while he was in the state mental hospital as Mr. RTK, which is rape, torture, kill,” he said.It was last Tuesday when he said the CA Department of State Hospitals released Smith from Coalinga psychiatric facility without any restrictions under Megan's law, meaning he is not required to register as a sex offender.Deputies say he's served his time and is free to go where he wants.Before arriving in San Diego, the 59-year-old went to Orange, Corona and Lake Elsinore which sparked outrage in Los Angeles. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Pacific Beach alone relies on over 4,000 hospitality workers, often working overnight hours.Safety concerns while on the job, closing up, or walking home are an unfortunate reality of the industry.“When you’re out there, and it’s dark, and you can’t see any one thing around you, I can’t tell you how vulnerable you feel, because you’re constantly looking around you," said Marian Novak, Director of the Responsible Hospitality Coalition.Novak has worked in Pacific Beach since 1991 and currently does responsible beverage training for servers.She and other hospitality workers signed up for a three-hour class with IMPACT Personal Safety, a nonprofit based out of Los Angeles committed to ending the cycle of violence.Organized by Discover Pacific Beach, workers were able to learn verbal strategies, awareness skills, and fighting skills.“When people are intoxicated, they literally don’t make the right decisions," said Lisa Gaeta, founder of IMPACT Personal Safety. “Our philosophy is that once you know you can physically defend yourself, then it’s easier to talk your way out. But if you’re afraid that you’re going to be hurt, it's not so easy, which is why we always teach fighting.”Attendees at the class say after just an hour they felt more confident and empowered. 1304
