VICTORIA, Seychelles, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Zhou Yongkang, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC), has met leaders of the Seychelles on bilateral relations. Zhou, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, was welcomed Thursday evening at the airport by the general secretary of the People's Party of the Seychelles, Danny Faure, who is also finance minister. The CPC is willing to enhance exchanges and cooperation with the People's Party of the Seychelles to further strengthen the political basis of the bilateral relationship, said the senior CPC official.     The CPC and the Chinese government are also willing to boost cooperation with African countries, including the Seychelles, in meeting the challenges of the international financial crisis, said Zhou.     Faure said China has always treated the Seychelles, a small country, on an equal footing, adding that the two nations, the two peoples and the ruling parties of both countries have maintained friendly relations, which could be regarded as a model for relations between big and small countries.     The People's Party hopes to promote exchanges with the CPC on the experience of governance, said Faure.     When meeting with Vice President Joseph Belmont on Friday, Zhou said the relations between China and the Seychelles have witnessed a sustained healthy and steady development since the two countries established diplomatic ties 33 years ago.     With the smooth implementation of China's eight measures regarding cooperation with Africa, proposed by Chinese President Hu Jintao in 2006, China and the Seychelles have seen increased exchanges of high-level visits, deepened traditional friendship and expanded cooperation, Zhou said.     The Chinese government announced eight new measures to enhance cooperation with Africa earlier this month, and China is willing to jointly implement these measures with the Seychelles so as to bring more benefits to the Africans, including the Seychelles people, he said.     The senior CPC official also expressed appreciation for the support of the People's Party and the Seychelles government on the Taiwan and human rights issues.     Belmont said the Seychelles people have benefited extensively from China-Africa cooperation, adding that the Seychelles welcomed China's new measures on its cooperation with Africa and would implement them in a timely manner.     While expressing the hope for enhanced cooperation in tourism, the Seychelles vice president also expected more investment from Chinese companies in the country's tourism sector.     Zhou arrived here Thursday for a technical stopover after concluding visits to Sudan and South Africa.

GENEVA, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- China will maintain the stability of its Renminbi (RMB) exchange rate all along, which does good for the world economic recovery, Commerce Minister Chen Deming said on Monday.     China's exchange rate reform has continued smoothly, and the value of RMB has risen by some 20 percent against the U.S. dollar since 2005, Chen told reporters in Geneva, where he is attending a ministerial conference of the World Trade Organization.     Despite the impact of the global financial crisis and all kinds of other difficulties, the Chinese government has actively tried to boost domestic consumption and stimulate imports, Chen said. TAIPEI, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Taiwan leader Ma Ying-jeou vowed Wednesday that he will push forward the reform of the Kuomintang (KMT) "at full speed" four days after he took the position of the party's chairman.     He said his aim of running for the chairman was to guarantee closer cooperation between the party and the administrative authorities to make the administrative work more effective.     Ma made the remarks Wednesday at the first conference for the Central Standing Committee of the KMT since he took the position.     Ma stressed that it is now a key period to strengthen the relations between the party and the administrative authorities as the island's economy is showing signs of revival.     During the conference, the party approved a decision to remove two officials from their newly-elected positions as the members of the KMT Central Standing Committee for being involved in vote-buying.

BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- China and the United States will more vigorously promote cultural exchanges between the two nations and their people, and send more students to each other's country to study, a joint statement said here on Tuesday.     "The two sides noted the importance of people-to-people and cultural exchanges in fostering closer China-U.S. bilateral relations and therefore agreed in principle to establish a new bilateral mechanism to facilitate these exchanges," the statement said.     In recent years, the number of students studying in each other's country keeps rising. Currently there are nearly 100,000 Chinese students studying in the United States.     "The U.S. will receive more Chinese students and facilitate visa issuance for them," the statement said.     In China, there are about 20,000 American students studying. The United States will launch a new initiative to encourage more American students to study in China. "Over the coming four years, the U.S. will send 100,000 students to China, and the Chinese side welcomed this decision," it said.     China and the U.S. agreed to expedite negotiations to renew in 2010 a cultural exchange accord, and jointly hold the Second China-U.S. Cultural Forum in the United States at an appropriate time, the statement added.
