ENCINITAS, Calif. (KGTV) - Surveillance video catches a woman chatting and stealing inside an Encinitas boutique.A missing necklace was the first clue. When Heidi Linkogle looked at her shop's surveillance video, the theft was revealed, move by move."Unbelievable. Really chatty and unassuming," said Linkogle.Linkogle's assistant was working that day. In the video, the shopper is seen picking out two pairs of earrings and a bracelet, before ducking into the changing room. When she emerges from the dressing room, she has an armful of clothes but there is no sign of the jewelry. The woman leaves the shop briefly and returns with a big purse. The woman chats up the clerk before paying for the clearance items. As she leaves, there is more sticky fingers, as she stuffs more clothing into the shopping bag. The total loss is nearly 0. "It hurts. It really does," said Linkogle.In the past year, she's seen an increase in shoplifting at her shop. (KGTV) - A retired Escondido homeowner is figuring out how she'll pay for Thanksgiving dinner after everything she bought for the holiday was spoiled during a power outage.On a fixed income, Carol Marbrey purchased the meal at the beginning of the month.“I was never warned that my electric would be turned off, and then I was told it would be on by 7:30 AM, then I was told it would be on by noon, and this is all online, and then I was told it would five at night.”Marbrey came home that night to a dark house; power wasn't restored until the next day.The outage happened earlier this week during the extreme wind conditions and Red Flag Warning countywide.San Diego Gas & Electric says some customers weren't warned because it was a fluid situation, with weather conditions changing by the hour.  A spokesperson tells 10News after power is shut off, technicians must inspect hundreds of miles of lines before turning them back on.Marbrey says she called the company several times to understand the situation.“I was getting different answers as to why our electric was not going on," said Marbrey.An SDG&E spokesperson tells 10News they encountered an issue trying to re-energize Marbrey's circuit, by then it was getting dark, and they had to wait until the following day.Marbrey says she understands the necessity to keep the community safe but wishes she’d been better informed.She knows her situation could be a lot worse.“Our hearts really go out to those people that really suffered; we really respect the fire department, the electrical people that are on the ground, the maintenance people, everyone that's doing their best to keep us safe.”Marbrey estimates they lost 0 to 0 in spoiled food. ESCONDIDO (CNS) - An argument between two men at a northern San Diego County gym Tuesday turned into a baseball bat assault that sent one of them to a hospital, authorities said.A bystander made a 911 call shortly after 9 a.m. to report the fracas outside LA Fitness in the 300 block of West El Norte Parkway in Escondido, according to police.Witnesses told officers the dispute started as a quarrel inside the business, Sgt. Mike Graesser said.The bickering men eventually made their way outside the gym, at which point one of them went to his car, retrieved a bat and attacked the victim with it, hitting him on the head at least once, Graesser said. The attacker then got into the vehicle, a black sedan, and drove off.Medics took the victim to a hospital for treatment of injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.The assailant remained at large Tuesday afternoon, though police had "a pretty good idea who he is," according to Graesser, who noted that a witness videotaped the assault."We have some good leads," the sergeant said. 1056

FALLBROOK, Calif. (CNS) - A 53-year-old Fallbrook man was fatally struck by a car while attempting to cross a street in Fallbrook, authorities reported Monday.A 58-year-old man was driving a Toyota Camry northbound on South Mission Road about 12:15 a.m. Sunday when the victim ran westbound across the northbound lanes near Peppertree Lane and was struck by the sedan, California Highway Patrol Officer Mark Latulippe said.The pedestrian was taken to Temecula Valley Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the officer said. The victim's name was withheld pending family notification.The Toyota driver remained at the scene and intoxication was not a factor in the crash, Latulippe said. 695
