A Phoenix Suns fan is facing charges after cursing at team owner Robert Sarver during a game and later confronting an officer as he was removed from the arena.Police say Jeffrey Camill Whitley was seated near Sarver inside Talking Stick Resort Arena during the Phoenix Suns-New Orleans Pelicans game on April 5.After Sarver had sat down in his personal seats, the 18-year-old and his friends began yelling obscenities, and also reportedly called Sarver "the worst owner in the league."Court records show the arena security asked Whitley to stop, but he continued for several more minutes before having to be removed from the arena. While being escorted out of the building by Phoenix police, Whitely allegedly chest-bumped an officer, trying to push him backward. He has been charged with aggravated assault and criminal trespassing. 843

A University of Arizona professor is providing new insight into the suspected cartel attack that left nine U.S. citizens dead in Mexico The attacks in Mexico reflect drug wars -- where non-cartel members are more and more likely to be caught in the violence. That's the conclusion of a University of Arizona professor who studied the cartels and their impact.Dr. Javier Osorio of the University of Arizona School of Government says the offshoot Mormon community involved in this latest attack established itself in Mexico more than a hundred years ago. They developed large, valuable farms and ranches.RELATED: 623

Actor Cuba Gooding Jr.'s sex abuse trial is set to begin Tuesday with jury selection in New York City.Gooding is charged with forcible touching, a misdemeanor, and sex abuse in the third degree related to an alleged groping incident in June.A 29-year-old woman filed a police report claiming Gooding grabbed her breast at Magic Hour Rooftop Bar & Lounge in Manhattan.Gooding has denied the claim. The actor voluntarily surrendered to New York police for questioning in June and was released on his own recognizance. The woman in the alleged incident told police she was with friends when she was confronted by a male patron whom she described as Gooding, a law enforcement source told CNN."The male allegedly groped her breasts," the source said. "The victim later told cops she protested at the unwanted touching and they argued about the encounter."The woman left the bar and called 911 to report the alleged incident, the law enforcement source said, and NYPD Manhattan Special Victims Squad investigated.Gooding's attorney has said video footage taken at the bar that night will clear his client."There is not a scintilla of criminal culpability that can be attributed to Mr. Cuba Gooding Jr. after I have extensively, with my staff, reviewed the video of almost two hours which reflects the entire event," Mark Heller told reporters in June."I am totally confident that when a jury of Cuba Gooding Jr.'s peers assess all of the exculpatory evidence in this case, that he will be totally exonerated," Heller added last month. 1543

A new reported loophole in the federal financial aid process is raising concerns about fairness. According to multiple reports, some parents from Illinois are giving up guardianship of their child before they go to college. It gives the student “independent status,” which can help them qualify for more student debt since their parents’ income isn’t considered.Emily Goodman, from the Partnership for College Completion, says she’s disappointed, but she’s not surprised. Goodman helps kids from low-income backgrounds finish college.“They’re really taking away opportunity for our low-income students in our state who may be the only access to college,” she says. “The only pathway to college is through state financial aid.”The reports say more than 40 families in question came from some of the wealthiest places in Illinois: Lake County.State Representative La Shawn Ford is working to close the loophole to make the system fairer. “These parents that really have the ability to pay are robbing the dreams of certain families and their kids the ability to go to college,” Ford says.He says the practice isn’t technically illegal, so any impactful change would have to happen on the federal level. He plans to crack down on private college admission businesses that allegedly pointed parents to this practice.“They can have some type of restrictions on how they guide and drive people to these types of immoral behaviors," Rep. Ford says. But others aren’t as confident that new regulations are the solution.Justin Draeger is one of them. He works for the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators."What we don't want is an overcorrection that then makes it really difficult, if not impossible, for students who are in legitimate legal guardianships to qualify for financial aid,” says Draeger.Rep. Ford argues the loophole only exposes a bigger issue.“If people have to go through measures to lie cheat and rob others of opportunities to go to college,” Ford says, “college is not affordable." 2027

American Airlines has apologized to a woman who says she was humiliated after being told she couldn't fly unless she covered up her romper.Latisha "Tisha" Rowe said she and her son were boarding a flight from Kingston, Jamaica, to Miami, Florida, on June 30 when a male flight attendant asked them to step off the plane to talk, her attorney, Geoffrey Berg, told CNN.A female flight attendant then told Rowe that she would not be allowed to fly unless she covered herself, Berg said. Her thighs and arms were exposed in the strapless romper.Rowe said the employee asked if she had a jacket, and ended up giving her a blanket to wrap around herself, Berg said.Rowe tweeted about her experience and shared a picture of the outfit she was wearing."Here is what i was wearing when @AmericanAir asked me to deplane for a talk. At which point I was asked to "cover up". When defending my outfit I was threatened with not getting back on the flight unless I walked down the aisle wrapped in a blanket. #notsofriendlyskies," she wrote."My shorts covered EVERYTHING but apparently was too distracting to enter the plane," 1125
