NATIONAL CITY, Calif. (KGTV) - People who live next to the 8th hole at the National City Golf Course are fed up with damage from errant tee shots."It's a huge problem," says Karen Hovik. She says golf balls have broken three windshields on her car and left countless dents and scratches."I watch people, and they try to swing like Happy Gilmore while they're filming it," she says, noting that golfers take aggressive swings and don't seem to care where their ball lands.A chain link fence lines the property between the golf course and the condo complex. Hovik and her neighbors want the city or the course management company to put up tall nets, similar to the ones near the driving range."It's not just property damage," says Hovik. "Somebody could get really hurt and injured by that." Hovik says she's been hit by golf balls several times while walking near her home.A representative from the golf course told 10News they take the issue very seriously, and they've posted signs along the course telling the golfers they are responsible for any damage done by bad shots. They also say they plan a full safety review of the course this year, and that's one issue that will be addressed.Representatives from the National City Parks and Recreation Department have not returned our calls for comment. 1308

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The 65th Nashville Christmas Parade Organizers have announced that Kid Rock will no longer serve as the Grand Marshal of the Nashville Christmas Parade. The organizers have stated that they believe the Grand Marshal should "personify the spirit of Nashville" and therefore, have invited James Shaw Jr. to hold this honor. Shaw became a hero in the community after stopping a shooting at a local Waffle House earlier this year. This news came after Nashville Mayor David Briley announced he may not participate in the city’s Christmas parade if Kid Rock remained the Grand Marshal. The Mayor’s Office issued a statement Friday, saying “if Kid Rock is still the grand marshal tomorrow, the Mayor is inclined not to participate.” Briley’s statement came just hours after Kid Rock’s appearance on “Fox & Friends,” in which he called Joy Behar a “b----.” “God forbid you say something a little bit wrong, you’re a racist, homophobic, Islamophobic, this that and the other. More than 20 fire departments are working to burn down a Beaver Dam, Wisconsin apartment building where a deadly explosion happened last week. City officials said dangerous chemicals inside of the structure made it too dangerous for residents to re-enter, and that burning the building to the ground is the safest way to prevent any injuries."We have carefully reviewed this, and we firmly believe this is the action that needs to be taken, unfortunately," said Beaver Dam Fire Chief Alan Mannel at a Wednesday evening news conference. The five, neighboring buildings in the apartment complex were evacuated ahead of Thursday's controlled burn. Streets in the area were shut down at 9 a.m.Around 10 o'clock, firefighters lit both ends of the apartment building at 109 Knaup Dr. on fire and allowed it to burn towards the middle. Large shipping containers were placed around building 109 to help contain the heat and flames. Mannel said staffing of the fire trucks surrounding the building is minimal, and that firefighters only plan to step in and control the flames if they threatened any of the nearby structures. Police on Wednesday identified 28-year old Benjamin Morrow as the man killed in last Monday's blast. According to authorities, Morrow lived in one of the units.Beaver Dam Police Chief John Kreuziger said investigators continue to suspect that Morrow was building a bomb inside of the apartment. According to his obituary, Morrow worked in the quality department at Richelieu Foods in Beaver Dam for almost a year. His obituary describes him as "a hard worker" who "had a good rapport with all those around him."Police and the FBI continue to investigate why Morrow was in possession of the volatile chemicals that required them to eventually burn the building down.Kreuziger on Wednesday declined to comment on what the chemicals inside of the apartment were. City officials said the plan is for evacuated residents to be allowed back into their homes this evening. That's also when they plan to re-open nearby streets. The EPA has placed air monitoring devices in the area. Mannel said the EPA can also test the air in individual apartments within the evacuation zone at the request of residents. 2336

Attorney Rebecca Demaree said if an employer does not treat every employee the same way, they may find themselves in hot water."Should you ask 'well, if you're going to that protest activity, we're going to make your self isolate for 14 days because we know there are going to be a large number of individuals,' and then you take a similarly situated employee who says 'at Christmas I'll be with 20 of my relatives,' and you don't treat them the same way, the question could be are you doing that because you're trying to stifle a protest or a First Amendment activity?" said Rebecca Demaree.Demaree counsels companies on labor and employment law. She said health screenings when employees return to work after time off make sense in most high-contact industries."That's going to be important for the employers to keep customers and fellow employees safe," Demaree said. Demaree advises a good questionnaire doesn't include questions that can make an employee feel singled out."They're not questions about 'who were you with?' 'Where were you?' What were you doing exactly?' But they are more designed to lead to those questions if more information is warranted," she said.Additionally, friends and families should not compare their return to work processes because different industries are doing it differently.
