SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego Gulls coach Dallas Eakins was Monday named the coach of its NHL parent team, the Anaheim Ducks.Eakins coached the Gulls throughout their four seasons in the American Hockey League, guiding them to a 154-95-23 record and three Calder Cup playoff berths. They reached the Western Division finals in the recently concluded 2018-19 season.The Gulls had the best record in the AHL's Pacific Division since its inception in the 2015-16 season.The 52-year-old Eakins called his hiring as the Ducks' coach ``a tremendous honor for my family.''``I am truly humbled,'' Eakins said. ``It was a privilege to serve as head coach of the San Diego Gulls during our first four seasons and I look forward to build off that success here in Anaheim.''Eakins replaces Randy Carlyle, who was fired on Feb. 10. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Police Thursday were searching for a suspect who carjacked a 56-year-old man while he was listening to music in a City Heights parking lot.It happened around 9:35 p.m. Wednesday in a parking lot near the intersection of Euclid and University avenues, San Diego police Officer Robert Heims said.The victim was listening to music in his red 2013 Nissan Versa sedan when a man walked up to the car, lifted his shirt up and showed that he had a gun in his waistband, Heims said. The suspect then told the 56-year-old man to get out of the car, and the victim complied.The suspect got into the Nissan, which had California license plate 7EKT818, and drove off southbound on Euclid Avenue, the officer said.The suspect was described as a 5-foot-11 Hispanic man in his early 20s who weighed between 150 and 180 pounds. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego City Council candidate Kelvin Barrios suspended his campaign today, following allegations of ethics violations.Barrios was running for City Council District 9 in the seat soon to be vacated by Council President Georgette Gomez.``Throughout this race I have been hit, morally and mentally, more times that I can even count,'' Barrios' statement released Monday said. ``And I get it -- there were issues, we needed to address them.``It seemed like every time I did, we would collectively shift away focus from the real needs of our community. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - State regulators have approved .1 million in funding for a slew of hydrogen refueling stations, including four in San Diego County, officials said Saturday.The funding, for a total of 123 stations statewide, will "expand California's early commercial light duty hydrogen refueling and fuel cell electric vehicle markets and (will) accommodate the projected FCEV roll-out in 2021-2024," according to the California Energy Commission.Funds were awarded to three companies -- FirstElement, Iwatani and Shell -- for 36 hydrogen stations to service passenger vehicles. Another 87 stations were also recommended for funding to these same awardees in subsequent funding batches.The funding awarded Friday includes stations at the following locations:1832 W.
