WASHINGTON, D.C. – The House of Representatives approved a resolution that appointed seven House Democrats as impeachment managers and sent articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump to the Senate. The vote came hours after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi named U.S. Representatives Adam Schiff (D-California), Jerry Nadler (D-New York), Zoe Lofgren (D-California), Hakeem Jeffries (D-New York), Val Demings (D-Florida), Jason Crow (D-Colorado) and Sylvia Garcia (D-Texas as impeachment managers in the Senate trial that will decide President Donald Trump's fate. The articles are expected to be delivered to the Senate at 5 p.m.Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) is expected to move ahead quickly with an impeachment trial. McConnell told reporters Tuesday that he fully expects the trial to be underway by next Tuesday.McConnell has said he will hold a full trial instead of merely voting to dismiss the articles. However, he is expected to formally approve ground rules for the trial without Democrat support and without first approving a witness list. The House voted to impeach Trump on the two counts in December. Pelosi had previously said she would not send articles of impeachment over to the Senate until she was assured that a fair trial would be conducted.House Democrats allege that Trump abused his power by withholding taxpayer funds earmarked for defense in Ukraine in exchange for Ukranian President Volodymyr Zelensky announcing an investigation into potential corruption regarding Joe Biden's son, who sat on the board for a Ukranian energy company. Hunter Biden has not faced any corruption charges in Ukraine or the United States. House Democrats also allege Trump obstructed Congress by not participating in impeachment proceedings against him. 1799
Walmart has removed about 1,000 third-party items from its website in the wake of two mass shootings after determining the products violate company policy, a company spokesperson told CNN Tuesday. The retail giant regularly reviews its 75 million online offerings, looking for items that violate its ban on merchandise that glorifies violence, the company said. A recent review focused on gun-related items after 31 people were killed in mass shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, earlier this month. The products were removed over the last week, the spokesperson said. The retailer has been facing pressure to remove firearms from its physical stores and criticized for selling pro-gun T-shirts on its e-commerce site.Last week, Walmart pulled displays of violent video games in its stores. But that policy change does not apply to the sale of controversial video games nor to the sale and display of firearms. At least 31 people were killed in separate shootings earlier this month in an El Paso Walmart and outside a strip of entertainment venues in Dayton. The Dayton shooter was killed by police within 30 seconds of opening fire. The 21-year-old suspect in the El Paso shooting surrendered to police on the day of the attack. He told police he was targeting Mexicans, according to an arrest affidavit. The El Paso shooting came a week after a disgruntled Walmart employee killed two co-workers and wounded an officer at a Southaven, Mississippi store. Walmart's CEO Doug McMillon said that the company will respond in a "thoughtful and deliberate" way to both shootings. 1592
Two Department of Energy officials referred on Wednesday to natural gas produced in the US as "freedom gas" and "molecules of U.S. freedom" in a press release announcing the expansion of a natural gas facility in Texas. The department announced the expansion of the Freeport LNG Terminal, a facility on Quintana Island, that produces liquified natural gas for export. The expansion of the facility will support an estimated 3,000 new jobs in the area, from construction to engineering, according to the department's release."Increasing export capacity from the Freeport LNG project is critical to spreading freedom gas throughout the world by giving America's allies a diverse and affordable source of clean energy," Under Secretary of Energy Mark Menezes said.Department officials announced the expansion at the Tenth Clean Energy Ministerial conference in Vancouver, Canada."I am pleased that the Department of Energy is doing what it can to promote an efficient regulatory system that allows for molecules of U.S. freedom to be exported to the world," Assistant Secretary for Fossil Energy Steven Winberg, who signed the export order, said in the release. The export order from will allow Freeport LNG to export up to 0.72 billion cubic feet per day of liquified natural gas from a fourth liquefaction train at the LNG Terminal. Right now, the facility can support exports of up to 5 billion cubic feet per day, but, with the expansion, that is set to double by 2020, the release states.The-CNN-Wire? & ? 2019 Cable News Network, Inc., a Time Warner Company. Two Las Vegas computer programmers have pleaded guilty in federal court in Virginia to charges stemming from illegal video streaming operations.Federal prosecutors say 36-year-old Darryl Julius Polo pleaded guilty Thursday to copyright infringement and money laundering charges while 40-year-old Luis Angel Villarino pleaded guilty Friday to conspiracy to commit copyright infringement. The Justice Department said the Jetflicks and iSttreamItAll streaming operations involved subscription services that pirated entertainment and deprived copyright holders of millions of dollars.According to a Justice Department statement, Polo admitted that one of the sites had about nearly 120,000 television episodes and nearly 11,000 movies and got the content from pirate sites through searches conducted around the clock. iStreamItAll provided members with more content than Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu and Vudu, according to prosecutors.Additional defendants in the case resulting from an FBI investigation are scheduled to go to trial in February. 1052
