BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- China and the United States underlined that each country and its people have the right to choose their own path, and agreed to hold the next round of human rights dialogue in Washington by the end of February 2010, said the China-U.S. joint statement issued Tuesday.     According to the statement, the Chinese and U.S. sides agreed that all countries should respect each other's choice of a development model.     "Both sides recognized that China and the United States have differences on the issue of human rights," said the statement, "Addressing these differences in the spirit of equality and mutual respect, as well as promoting and protecting human rights consistent with international human rights instruments, the two sides agreed to hold the next round of the official human rights dialogue in Washington D.C. by the end of February 2010."     The two sides agreed that promoting cooperation in the field of law and exchanges on the rule of law serves the interests and needs of the citizens and governments of both countries, and decided to convene the China-U.S. Legal Experts Dialogue at an early date.

BEIJING, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- Vice Premier Wang Qishan on Monday hoped China and Germany would increase mutually-beneficial cooperation in various fields to promote bilateral relations.     "China and Germany are highly complementary in economy and share great potential for cooperation," Wang told visiting German Federal Minister of Economics and Technology Rainer Bruederle.     Hailing the China-Germany 37-year diplomatic relations, Wang said the two nations had witnessed frequent high-level exchanges and increased cooperation in economy, trade, investment, science, technology, culture and other fields.     China was in a period which witnessed accelerated industrialization and urbanization, Wang said. "We will unswervingly follow the principle of putting people first and the scientific concept on development to seek sustainable development."     Bruederle said Germany would work with China to expand bilateral cooperation, in a bid to promote healthy and stable development of trade and economic relations between the two nations.

BEIJING, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- China's State Council, the cabinet, said on Monday that the government was discussing measures and policies for the healthy development of the country's real estate sector as house prices in some cities are rising too fast.     Housing prices returned to growth on month-on-month basis since March this year on record lending and the government's favorable policies to stimulate property consumption, including tax breaks and interest rates cuts.     But as the market recovers, housing prices in some cities are soaring too fast, which deserves "great attention", according to an executive meeting of the State Council, chaired by Premier Wen Jiabao.     In order to maintain the "stable" and "healthy" development of the real estate market, China will increase supply of smaller houses at medium-and-low price levels, continue to support residential consumption for improved housing while curbing speculation.     The country will also expand construction of housing projects for low-income families, aiming to help 15.4 million more poor households solve their housing problems by 2012, attendees agreed at the meeting.     Meanwhile, more efforts will be made during the next three to five years to improve living conditions for residents living in shabby houses in some cities, they agreed.     About 10 million households are still living in "shanty towns" in some cities across the country, the meeting revealed.     The central government will offer financial support to renovate those "shanty towns" during the next three to five years, they agreed, but did not say how much funding would be put in place.     Local governments should increase concrete spending in rebuilding these poorly-constructed houses. Social investment is welcomed at these projects, according to the meeting.

VICTORIA, Seychelles, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Zhou Yongkang, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC), has met leaders of the Seychelles on bilateral relations. Zhou, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, was welcomed Thursday evening at the airport by the general secretary of the People's Party of the Seychelles, Danny Faure, who is also finance minister. BEIJING, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang on Friday urged geologists to make full use of the country's rich resources and explore new energy in innovative ways.     "Geological work makes the basic and pioneer industry for economic and social development and it affects the country's overall modernization... We should mainly depend on our own power to increase energy supply," said Li at the ceremony for the country's top geological science awards.     A total of 14 geologists from the geological exploration, research and education fields received the 11th Li Siguang Geological Science Award.
