WASHINGTON, D.C. (AP) — The House has easily passed an .3 billion measure to battle the coronavirus outbreak in the U.S. The sweeping bipartisan vote came just nine days after President Donald Trump requested action. The legislation came together unusually quickly, a rarity in a deeply polarized Washington. The legislation more than triples the .5 billion plan unveiled by Trump just last week. It would speed development of vaccines and new medicines to battle the virus, pay for containment operations, and beef up preparedness. Trump is expected to sign the measure, which has the blessing of top Republicans. Next up is the GOP-controlled Senate, which hopes to pass the bill Thursday for Trump's signature. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention would receive about .2 billion of the funding, while .1 billion would go to a public health and social services emergency fund, according to The Washington Post. Top Senate Democrat Chuck Schumer says “there is no reason to be penny-wise and pound-foolish” when it comes to Americans' health. As of Wednesday afternoon, 11 people in the United States have died from COVID-19, the illness associated with the new virus. All but one were in Washington state. Worldwide, more than 3,200 people have died from COVID-19, according to 1306

Whether you are an expectant parent or grandparent, one thing you might not think about before the baby arrives is preparing your dog for the new arrival. That’s where a "dog doula" can help. What should have been a happy time to bring a new baby into the family was a bit stressful for Laurisa Truemper. She was nervous about introducing her dog to her baby, Hazel."Dogs are a part of the family so when you get a new member, you don’t think of getting rid of a family member," Truemper said. "You are just hoping everyone is going to get along.”Her dog Ruby has always been a good dog. But Tanya Lim, the owner of Family Pupz in Denver, says a dog is still a dog. We should never assume it won’t bite.Lim calls herself a "dog doula.""As a doggy doula I support dog training for expecting families,” Lim said.Lim tells her clients to observe how their dog behaves around the baby.If it yawns, looks away, licks its lips, its ears go up or it has tension in the face, those are all signs of aggression or anxiety."A lot of times when there is a bite, people will say the bite came out of nowhere," Lim says. "However, if you observe footage of the dog you will see the dog was giving warning signs.”To avoid a scary situation, Lim says to set up baby gates around the house. Never leave the baby and dog alone together. Also, place the dog crate in another room away from the baby. And never yell at the dog when you see aggressive behavior. After a few easy adjustments given by Lim, Truemper noticed a big difference in behavior from Ruby. But she understands she will have to help her daughter Hazel act safely around Ruby as well. 1644

WICHITA, Kan. — A Kansas man has been granted more than .5 million after spending more than 23 years in prison for a double murder he didn’t commit. Vitamin E acetate, in combination with THC, may be to blame for a national outbreak of e-cigarette-related lung injuries that's linked to dozens of deaths, according to US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention officials.Dr. Anne Schuchat, the principal deputy director of the CDC, said she would characterize it as a breakthrough in the agency's investigation, although more tests are necessary."These new findings are significant," Schuchat said during a press briefing on Friday. "We have a strong culprit."There is still more work to do and the CDC said it is continuing to test for a wide range of chemicals."This does not rule out other possible ingredients," Schuchat said. "There may be more than one cause."The CDC says its tests found vitamin E acetate in samples taken from 29 patients who were sick with vaping-related illness in 10 states. THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, the primary psychoactive component of the cannabis plant, or its metabolites were detected in 23 of 28 patients.During the press briefing, CDC's Dr. James Pirkle described vitamin E acetate as "enormously sticky" when it goes into the lungs, and it "does hang around." Pirkle said it wouldn't be unusual for THC to be absent from some of the samples because it leaves the lungs faster. He added finding THC in 82% of the samples from 28 patients was "noteworthy."In September, New York health officials linked cases of severe lung illness to vitamin E acetate in cannabis-containing vaping products. At the time, investigators said it was "a key focus" of the state's investigation into the illnesses. An investigation into the link between vaping and severe lung illnesses has yielded the discovery of extremely high levels of the chemical vitamin E acetate in nearly all cannabis-containing vaping products that were analyzed, New York health officials said Thursday.Until the investigation is complete, the CDC suggests people refrain from using all vaping products with THC, no matter where people buy them. The investigation has found that many of these products patients used were bought online or received through friends or family, rather than through vaping shops or at licensed THC dispensaries.Vitamin E is used in several products, such as lotions and in supplements, but the CDC said there is a "big difference" in putting vitamin E on the skin or swallowing it in pill and in inhaling the oily vitamin.Dr. Jennifer Layden, the chief medical officer and state epidemiologist with the Illinois Department of Public Health, said in the press briefing that in her state, they found the majority of cases of the people who were sick used THC, and that their materials came from "informal sources." In Illinois, she said, they had not had any cases associated with the state's medical marijuana program. So far, there have been 2,051 cases of vaping associated illnesses, reported in every state, except for Alaska, as of November 5. States have reported at least 40 deaths. 2979
