A high-profile actor recently came clean about a problem millions of Americans are struggling with right now.After 16 years of sobriety, Dax Shepard says he relapsed on a painkiller he was prescribed after a motorcycle accident and surgery. He says he's getting help to stay clean.“At the end of the day, there is still too much stigma out there when it comes to substance abuse disorders and the opioid epidemic,” said Dr. Anand Parekh, Chief Medical Adviser at the Bipartisan Policy Center. “This a public health challenge. We need to support our friends and families, so that they can get the treatment they need.”The Bipartisan Policy Center recently came out with an in-depth look at the billions in federal money going to fight the opioid epidemic. While the amount being spent on prevention, treatment and recovery is increasing, sadly, so are the numbers of drug overdose deaths. The group believes that's in part due to opioid misuse evolving.Synthetic opioids like fentanyl are driving more deaths. More people are using multiple substances. Usage rates among communities of color are increasing.While federal dollars are flowing to areas experiencing the highest numbers of overdose deaths, there's concern it may not be reaching the highest risk groups.“We still don’t have the majority of Americans who have opioid use disorder on the gold standard medication assisted treatment, so that’s really important,” said Parekh.Those who are incarcerated, pregnant women, new moms, IV drug users, and communities of color are some of the highest risk groups.The center believes curbing America’s growing opioid epidemic will require a national addiction treatment system.Their report makes several recommendations, including allowing opioid crisis funding to address multiple substances like cocaine and methamphetamine, putting grant money in to address treatment gaps in diverse communities, and expanding access in correctional settings.They also say we should keep regulatory changes made during the pandemic to give people easier access to medication, and we should remove certain special requirements, so more health care providers can prescribe and treat opioid addiction with medication. 2209

A giant blimp of London Mayor Sadiq Khan will be seen in the UK capital's skies this weekend after protesters were given permission to fly the crowdfunded balloon in Westminster.More than 3,000 supporters have donated more than ￡58,000 (,500) in total to fund the 29-foot balloon, which depicts the mayor reclining in a small yellow bikini.Protest organizer Yanny Bruere, who describes himself as a British free speech advocate, said he had set up the crowdfunding campaign in response to London authorities' decision to allow a "Trump Baby" blimp to be flown during last month's visit to Britain by US President Donald Trump.He said the Parliament Square event on Saturday morning "marks the fightback for free speech in our country."Bruere, who has set up a "Make London Safe Again" group on Facebook, accuses Khan of doing too little to prevent violent crime in London.The Crowdfunder page posted by Bruere said: "In light of the Donald Trump 'Baby Trump' ballon being allowed to fly over London during his visit to the U.K., let's get a 'baby Khan' one and see if FREE SPEECH applies to all and whether or not Mr Khan and the London assembly will also approve this."Under Sadiq Khan, we have seen crime sky rocket to unprecedented levels. A man is being charged with assault after fighting with an IHOP manager last week after the manager asked the party to leave a IHOP in Memphis, WREG-TV reported. According to WREG, the IHOP manager asked Malachi O'Kelley's party of five to leave for being loud. A video of the incident shows most of the party leaving when O'Kelley allegedly attacked the manager. One of the members of the party threw a chair at the manager during the scuffle. Other members of the party also threw plates at IHOP employee. The manager responded by throwing a chair at one of the members of the party.WREG reported the manager received multiple stitches to the back of his head, above the eye and near the eyebrow. No other people have been charged in connection to last week's incident. The manager is reportedly back to work, and is looking at increasing security at the restaurant.  Note: Viewers may find video of incident disturbing 984

A bronze statue of the late United States Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg will be unveiled in Brooklyn next year.According to a press release, the statue will permanently reside at the City Point development in downtown Brooklyn and unveiled on March 15, which would have been the late justice's 88th birthday."In her lifetime, Justice Ginsburg championed countless crucial causes. This statue is just a small reminder that we all need to set the highest possible standards for ourselves and society," Chris Conlon, EVP and Chief Operating Officer of Acadia Realty, said in the release. "From the people who work here, to the diverse shoppers and shopping at City Point, everyone feels welcome, equal, and respected. We are honored to have this great statue grace our property, and to bring Justice Ginsburg's 'path marking' spirit back to Brooklyn to inspire us for generations."Artist duo Gillie and Marc design the statue as part of their "Statues for Equality" series, which have already installed 10 sculptures of women around New York City. A federal judge in San Diego on Friday called the Trump administration's plan outlining how the US government intends to reunite migrant children who were separated from their families with parents who have been deported "very impressive."US officials will first work to determine parentage and resolve any safety concerns for the child and then seek to reunite families. The submitted plan said there are 365 separated children with parents outside the US in the care of the Department of Health and Human Services, but officials later corrected that number.Scott Stewart, deputy assistant attorney general, said during a 40-minute joint status call Friday afternoon among the judge, the government, the American Civil Liberties Union and other nongovernmental organizations assisting with reunifications of separated families that the government actually has 386 children in its custody whose parents were deported.
