She told 10News that postal work runs in her family and her dad was the very first postal carrier in University City.That's where the beloved employee has spent the last 35 years of her career. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A tiger at an East County animal sanctuary has been killed by another tiger after staff accidentally allowed them to come in contact. ABC10 News confirmed that the surviving tiger is the same one that was rescued from a highly publicized smuggling bust at the border.Bobbi Brink is the founder of Alpine nonprofit Lions Tigers & Bears. She spoke to ABC10 News on Tuesday about Monday's incident where 7-year-old Maverick was attacked by another tiger named Moka in a tragedy of human error. No staff members or visitors were hurt. "It's a terrible accident and it occurred during the daily share that the tigers do every day when they put the tigers separately. Well, they accidentally put them in contact," she told ABC10 News.Moka sustained only a few scratches. He's the same tiger that was first reported on in 2017 when he was rescued from a smuggler at the U.S.-Mexico border. "They found him on the floorboard of somebody's car and he went to the zoo and the zoo couldn't keep him so he came to Lions Tigers & Bears," added Brink.Maverick was rescued in 2014 by California Fish and Wildlife staff after he was born in captivity and purchased illegally by a buyer who wasn't licensed to own an exotic animal.The nonprofit stated that it regularly holds safety trainings including one just last weekend. It plans to extensively review its protocols this week. "The process of caring for these animals doesn't leave any space for error," added Brink.On Tuesday evening, a spokesperson for the nonprofit called to say that the facility remains open. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A thief struck an ugly chord with residents in a Del Cerro neighborhood, after zeroing in on a porch and warming up his pipes.    Just off College Avenue, Katherine - who asked us not to reveal her full name - says the first feeling was confusion when she and her husband returned home from Julian on Saturday night.  On their porch, the couple says they found an opened letter addressed to a man in El Cajon. When they looked at the surveillance video, they saw him:  a casually dressed man pulls up in a pickup truck.            "He is holding the letter so he has a plan, a story if anybody stops him," said Katherine.On the video, the man heads right for the package at the front door and swipes it.  He throws the package in the truck, tosses the letter and as gets back into the truck, he appears to belt out a note.  As he backs out of the driveway, he keeps on singing."The singing clearly shows he's completely comfortable, really cocky...just going to his next gig.  I think it's his weekend job," said Katherine.Katherine can't help but smile about the likely sour note he experienced once he looked inside and found - a dog brush and mug.  Now she's hoping the video will lead to an arrest."He's clearly done this before.  No doubt he's out doing this again," said Katherine. 1414

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A showdown is brewing between two San Diego County supervisors about the reopening of the local economy amid the coronavirus pandemic.In a video on his Twitter account, Supervisor Jim Desmond said current California metrics make it impossible for the county to full reopen.During a Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday, Desmond plans to ask the county to not follow the state’s tier system, which determines when more businesses can reopen.Desmond said on Twitter: “San Diego has been backed into a corner. The State has given us impossible guidelines, which will keep businesses closed or limited for many more months! SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A sea lion pup in Encinitas was saved Tuesday from a diver's mask that was tightly wrapped around its neck.The year-old sea lion pup was found at Swami's Beach with a diver's mask wrapped around its neck. The sea lion, which only weighed about 32 pounds, appeared malnourished and dehydrated, according to SeaWorld rescue team members.The mask had been wrapped around the sea lion's neck for weeks, preventing the pup from foraging and eating.RELATED: Sea lion lies down in front of San Diego hotel's sign, refuses to budgeHad the mask remained on the pup, the animal would likely have eventually starved to death or been strangled by the mask, crews said.Rescue team members cut the mask off the sea lion, but found that a wound caused by the mask had become infected. Crews took the pup to SeaWorld’s Animal Health and Rescue Center, where officials treated the sea lion's wound.Officials say other than the wound and undernourishment, the sea lion was in good health. They hope to release the pup back into the wild in the next few months after rehabilitation. 1090
