Which is worse? Aggressive driving, drunk driving or distracted driving?They're all bad, but new information out on Thursday shows when it comes to risky behavior on the road, distracted driving now tops the list. Nearly nine out of 10 drivers believe it's on the rise. But experts say there are things you can do about it.From reaching for something to the increasing danger of technology, it has become easier to become distracted while driving. In a study out Thursday, the AAA Foundation found drivers talking on a cellphone are up to four times more likely to crash than those not using a cellphone. Those who text and drive are eight times more likely.Mark Stolberg, the Vice President of training at Masterdrive, said many of us look at distractions as small interruptions we can stop at any time.“The problem with it is the traffic situation can become threatening very quickly,” said Stolberg. “So even a little distraction is very dangerous.”“So if you have to check something else, if you have to check the mirror, if you have to check your navigation right, check that then get back focused on driving," Stolberg added. "Get right back focused on driving.”Stolberg demonstrated that when a text message is received, drivers have a tendency to take their eyes off the road. In a split second, Stolberg said that drivers could miss a changing traffic light, causing potential accidents. Turning off cellphones while driving is one way drivers can remove the temptation of taking their eyes off of the road.  1585

With major movies filmed in Georgia over the last few years, Atlanta has become the "Hollywood of the South." For the last few months, however, all production has stopped.“The type of work that we do to prep for movies has basically gone quiet,” said Craig Miller, who has been in the entertainment industry for more than 35 years.This year, his Atlanta-based production company, Craig Miller Productions, cut back due to coronavirus concerns.Movie studios shutting down across Georgia is having a huge economic impact on other industries.“Fiscal year 2019 we were at .9 billion direct to spend,” said Lee Thomas with the Georgia Film Office, who predicts that number to be very much smaller this year. Thomas says Georgia’s film industry directly and indirectly employs about 53,000 workers, making it one of the biggest industries in the state.“It’s not only the people that work directly in the industry but all the ancillary services from rental cars to hotels to restaurants,” she said.Restaurants like Palmer’s in Peachtree City, Georgia.Ashley Edwards is the owner of this restaurant where cast and crew often come to eat. With Congress unable to agree on another stimulus package, the CARES Act may have been the only chance for many to get an economic impact payment or stimulus check. However, millions of people still haven’t received that check.The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) estimates roughly 9 million people are still owed at least ,200. The Center for Taxpayer Rights estimates another 2 to 3 million people are entitled to and have been fighting to get the 0 for each of their eligible dependents.“There is a whole combination of factors for why people have not received their checks,” said Nina Olsen, the Executive Director for The Center of Taxpayer Rights.One reason some have not gotten their checks is because they did not file a 2018 or 2019 tax return, and they have not gone to the IRS’s “Non-Filer Portal,” which is located on the home page of the IRS’s website.So now, after 5 months, the IRS is sending letters to 9 million people in that category. The IRS has been able to identify who still qualifies for a check, but hasn’t received it, by sorting through its records and checking W-2 forms and 1099s.Those forms also have the non-filer’s address information, and that is the address the IRS is using for the new letters. The letters will inform these non-filers they are still eligible to get a stimulus check under the CARES Act and the steps they need to take to get that money. The steps are simple, either go to the IRS’s website and fill out the non-filer form or file a tax return.“It is also really important that people realize that if they use the non-filer portal they won’t be able to claim the earned income credit and many of these people may be eligible for the earned income credit,” said Olsen. “Those people need to file a regular return rather than use the non-filer portal and I don’t think the IRS has done a really good job of telling people that.”The earned income tax credit (EITC), typically earned by those who have dependent children, can be worth up to ,000. If you fill out the non-filer form in the IRS’s portal but later learn you qualified for additional money from the EITC, you could potentially lose the money from EITC.Outside of the 9 million non-filers getting a letter from the IRS, the 2 to 3 million people still eligible for 0 per dependent are getting a second chance at more CARES Act stimulus money.“Social Security Retirees and disabled people, it gave them less than 48 hours to go online if they had children. That meant they could get an additional 0 and enter that on the non-filer portal. Well a lot of these folks don’t have online access,” said Olsen. "It actually took a lawsuit that is still in the process of being settled for the IRS to reopen the portal.”Those still eligible to claim dependents have until the end of September to claim them through the IRS’s non-filer portal. While we’re still waiting on a comprehensive COVID-19 vaccine distribution plan, the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security released an ethics framework Wednesday for who it says should be prioritized.There are two tiers of groups it says should go before the general public. No surprise, the first tier includes front line health care workers taking care of coronavirus patients, people over 65, those with underlying health conditions and their caregivers.Also noted are people who work in the vaccine industry and those who will be administering them. Also, school, food supply and public transportation workers.One issue with that first tier is that's a lot of people, more than 90 million by some estimates.“So, it’s quite possible when a vaccine is available, there won’t be enough available for everybody in this top tier and so there may need to be prioritization within this top tier,” said Dr. Eric Toner, senior scholar at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security.The second-tier group includes other health care workers, people living in remote locations without access to quality care, and other essential workers like delivery, military, and first responders.It also includes people who live in places where they can’t socially distance, so inmates and people in shelters.The framework also mentions this is a decision that shouldn't only be made by experts and officials.“The public needs an opportunity to weigh in on this because, after all, they are the ones who are the recipients of the vaccines and whether they get it or not,” said Toner.The good news is the scholars don't see cost as a barrier to the vaccine. And while a vaccine is the best hope for controlling the pandemic, it will not be a magic bullet right away.“If we have a vaccine sometime this winter that’s authorized, it will be many months before everybody has access to it,” said Toner.Some decisions about who gets the vaccine first can't be made until one is ready, because you need to know how it may impact groups like the elderly or pregnant women. 2055
