Chad Daybell, the husband of a woman whose children have been missing since September, appeared in court on Wednesday after two sets of human remains were found on his property.During Wednesday's court appearance, prosecutor Rob Wood said the remains were those of 7-year-old Joshua "JJ" Vallow and 17-year-old Tylee Ryan, both of whom have been missing since September.Kay Woodcock, JJ's grandmother, also confirmed to East Idaho News that one set of the remains are those of her grandson's.Police have not yet publicly confirmed the identity of the remains.Daybell faces two counts of evidence destruction, alteration or concealment. His bail was set at million. Should Daybell make bail, he will be required to stay in certain parts of Idaho and will wear an ankle monitor. He also cannot have contact with the families of the victims. Daybell was arrested Tuesday shortly after police served a search warrant on his home in Idaho. Two criminal complaints allege Daybell willfully concealed or aided and abetted in the willful concealment of human remains, "knowing that said human remains were about to be produced, used and/or discovered as evidence in a felony proceeding, inquiry and/or investigation authorized by law, with the intent to prevent it from being so produced, used and/or discovered."Daybell is married to Lori Vallow, the mother of JJ and Tylee. She was arrested in Hawaii in connection with her children's disappearance on Feb. 20 and was extradited back to Idaho. She remained jailed despite several attempts to lower her bond.JJ and Tylee went missing in September, shortly after Daybell and Vallow married. Daybell's former wife, Tammy, died of what was believed to be natural causes shortly before Daybell and Vallow married. CARLSBAD (CNS) - A Carlsbad man was behind bars Wednesday for allegedly killing his roommate.Patrol officers responding to a report of a death in the 2500 block of West Ranch Street at about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday found a 40-year-old woman dead in an apartment in the neighborhood near the intersection of El Camino Real and Tamarack Avenue, police said.Her name was withheld pending family notification.Detectives questioned the woman's roommate, 44-year-old Brehon Roy Quigley, then arrested him, Carlsbad police Lt. Jason Jackowski said. Quigley was booked into the county jail in Vista on suspicion of murder.Police declined to release details on how the victim died and would not disclose a suspected motive for the alleged slaying."The investigation into what occurred and why is ongoing," the lieutenant said. CARLSBAD, Calif. —  Two bodies were found with gunshot wounds in front of a Carlsbad home Tuesday night, just east of Batiquitos Lagoon. The Carlsbad Police were alerted to the situation when they got a 911 call from a man saying he was going to commit suicide in the 2500 block of Navarra Drive, according to police. When they arrived at the home they found a 71-year-old man and 79-year-old woman both with visible gunshot wounds. A handgun was recovered at the scene.Both the man and woman are residents of Carlsbad. Their names are being withheld until family has been notified the by medical examiner.Carlsbad police tell 10News that the preliminary investigation indicates that the pair were married and each suffering from a different medical condition.There are no outstanding suspects and police are investigating the deaths as a possible murder-suicide situation.   943

CHARLESTON, SC -- Jacob Kosinski has a lot to celebrate after graduating from his Christian-based home-school program summa cum laude with a 4.89 grade-point average. His mom, Cara Koscinski planned a graduation party for her 18-year-old son and ordered a cake from Publix for the big occasion. Koscinski ordered the cake online and provided the information she wanted on the cake. She wanted it to say "Congrats Jacob! Summa Cum Laude class of 2018." When she typed the message into the cake message option, the Publix website didn't' like the middle word in the phrase.The website put three hyphens in its place, so the finished cake read "Congrats Jacob! Summa --- Laude, class of 2018."Koscinski explained the meaning of the word in the special instructions box on the website and ordered the cake. She even pointed out that "the system is mistaking the word 'cum' for something inappropriate vs. Latin."Koscinski sent her husband to pick up the cake before the celebration, and when he returned from the store, the lines remained in place of "Cum." Koscinski shared her frustration on Facebook and said her son, Jacob, "was humiliated!!!" "Shame on Publix for turning an innocent Latin phrase into a total embarrassment for having to explain to my son and others (including my 70-year-old mother) about this joke of a cake."Koscinski called Publix and explained the situation to the assistant manager.
