BEIJING, Nov.24 (Xinhua) -- Senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official Li Yuanchao met in Beijing Wednesday with a delegation consisting of members on the third course of the Workshop of the National Executive Committee of the African National Congress (ANC) of South Africa. BEIJING, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping Friday stressed efforts to promote outstanding officials at the grassroots who had tirelessly performed official duties honestly and diligently for the people.Xi, also a Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Part of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks while addressing a meeting of officials at CPC organization departments across the country.CPC's organization departments are responsible for work concerning the selection of party cadres.From 2011 to the first half of 2012, the current leadership of the CPC's provincial, municipal, county, and township level committees will be re-elected.Stressing the importance of the re-election, Xi said the year 2011 also marks the 90th anniversary of CPC's founding and the inaugural year for implementation of the 12th Five Year Plan, China's development blueprint covering the coming five years from 2011-2015.He urged party authorities to select and promote only those cadres who have both political integrity and professional competence.Further, Xi called for improved supervision over officials, especially those in key positions including heads of party committees or governments, chiefs of law enforcement agencies, and those in charge of personnel changes, money and materials, and other critical areas.He said he hoped that the re-election would further strengthen the leadership of the CPC in China and help contribute to the country's social and economic development in the coming five years.

SEOUL, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao held bilateral talks on Thursday with the presidents of South Korea, the United States and Russia, respectively, to discuss bilateral relations as well as regional and international issues including global economic recovery.The meetings took place after Hu arrived in Seoul earlier in the day for the summit of Group of 20 (G20) major economies in Seoul.RELATIONS WITH SOUTH KOREAWelcoming President Hu, South Korean President Lee Myung-bak said he believed China would play an important role in promoting international economic cooperation within the G-20 framework.The two presidents reached a consensus on further strengthening the bilateral relations and on how to successfully hold the G-20 summit.The healthy and stable development of China's economy is very important to the development of Asia and also to the recovery of the world's economy, Lee said.The South Korean president also voiced hopes for the two countries to strengthen their exchange activities with an aim to increase mutual trust and further develop their bilateral strategic partnership.Hu said the Seoul G-20 summit is the first to be held in an Asian country and also in an emerging market economy.Hu stressed that China and South Korea are important neighbors and partners and that China is willing to work with South Korea to advance the bilateral strategic partnership into a comprehensive one.Hu said China has always supported the improvement of relations between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and South Korea."China is willing to play a constructive role in this regard," he said.Lee expressed his appreciation for China's efforts in maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Penisula.

BEIJING, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao vowed Monday that the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Chinese government will wage the fight against corruption with greater determination and more forceful measures as the situation remains "grave".Addressing a plenary session of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI), the Party's anti-graft body, Hu said all work should be done with the fundamental interests of the majority of the people as the core concern.Hu, also General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, said problems that seriously violated the public interest and sparked the most public complaints should be addressed to ensure social justice.He said efforts were needed to strengthen ties between the Party and the people and to enable the people to play a more active role in fighting corruption.Hu pledged to "combat graft strictly and punish corrupt officials severely" so as to win trust from the people.Hu admitted that prominent problems remained in the fight against corruption and efforts to build a clean government, and warned of a "grave situation and arduous tasks."He called for enhanced supervision and monitoring of the implementation of major central government and Party policies and measures and the promotion of a corruption-free work style among officials.He called for reinforced efforts to build a system to prevent and punish corruption."More efforts should be made to investigate graft in key industries and key posts," he said, stressing the supervision of procedures concerning the promotion of local officials to prevent abuse of power or other corrupt conduct.Figures from the CCDI show 146,517 officials across China were punished for disciplinary violations last year, including 5,098 leaders at the county head level or above and 804 officials who were referred for prosecution.Discipline inspection bodies received almost 1.43 million petitions and tip-offs last year and recovered 8.97 billion yuan (1.35 billion U.S. dollars) in economic losses for the state."All comrades in the Party must serve the people with all their hearts and use their power to seek benefits for them.
