(KGTV) — Encinitas officials announced a "one-of-a-kind" crosswalk has been placed across Coast Highway 101 in downtown.Officials say the artistic crosswalk featuring surfboard shapes and waves spans across the highway at G Street and took two years of coordination between city staff and City Council to put together. The city says the crosswalk will improve walkability and bring more public art to the area.Artist Steffen Vala, whose work has appeared around the globe and been featured by Apple, Marvel, and other big brands, was commissioned for the crosswalk."The iconography of surfboard shapes is a nod to each surfer's 'magic board,' unique to them like their fingerprint. Juxtaposing this individualism is a unifying tidal wave laid out like the ocean's fingerprint that connects all the surfboards. This symbolizes the unifying, collective, 'party wave' we are all riding and our love in protecting the environment while celebrating our differences," the city said in a release.The city says the crosswalk is the longest decorative crosswalk of its kind and first one across a historic highway. 1132

Evacuations have been ordered for northern Arizona communities due to the Tinder Fire burning near Happy Jack.According to Coconino County officials, evacuations were ordered Sunday by the Coconino County Sheriff's Office for affected communities north, east and west of Highway 87 including Moqui Ranchettes, all of Starlight Pines, Clear Creek (except 1 and 2), all of Timber Ranch, all of Tamarron, Pine Canyon, Blue Ridge Estates, Ponderosa Pines, and Mogollon Ranches. The evacuation will be in effect until further notice, deputies will stay in the area to provide 24-hour security.  The fire has burned an estimated 8,000 acres and is burning 1.5 miles northeast of Blue Ridge Reservoir. ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Video shows a machete attack in Escondido that occurred earlier in February. According to Escondido Police, the attack happened on Maywood Street and Washington Avenue around 10:17 p.m. on February 12. Police say it appears three teenagers walking in the area were confronted with a machete-wielding man. FALLBROOK, Calif. (KGTV) — One person was killed in a traffic collision on Interstate 15 in the North County early Saturday.The crash was reported just before 4:30 a.m. on northbound I-15, just north of State route 76, according to California Highway Patrol.It's not clear what caused the crash. The victim's identity was not immediately released. A Sig Alert was issued at 5:15 a.m. and all lanes were shut down, though CHP reopened all lanes just before 10 a.m. 471

(KGTV) -- The Encinitas teenager bitten by a great white shark is thanking all who saved him and those who continue to support his recovery.It was nearly two months ago when 13-year-old Keane Webre-Hayes was attacked while lobster diving at Beacon's Beach.Webre-Hayes sustained substantial damage to his left torso and face. His humorous was broken, ball joint broke in half, and rotator cuff torn apart in several places. He also lost a significant amount of his deltoid and lat muscles.The 13-year-old underwent hours of surgeries and got 1,000 stitches."I feel really thankful to have my arm, to be alive, and I'm thankful to probably in the future help other people," said Webre-Hayes.He's now considering a career in lifeguarding. Those who helped him are on a long list of people he wants to thank.“The people that towed me in from the kayak, the first responders, the pilot, the doctors, the nurses, all the companies that have given me things, it's motivation to get back out there and do what I love, like surfing and skateboarding," said Webre-Hayes.His mother, Ellie Hayes, says she is grateful for the outpouring of support and financial donations which will help with ongoing medical expenses."It’s one of the ultimate tests, and I know that there’s a reason and meaning, and there’s good that we can do with it," said Ellie. "We don’t know what that is right now, we’re going through it day by day, but we're  open and ready to make sure we spread the word of courage and strength."Webre-Hayes will continue physical therapy and could have additional surgeries in the future. 1620
