SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- More than 20 people were arrested in San Diego as part of a statewide sanctuary enforcement operation carried out by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.ICE officials said the arrests were made between Sept. 28 and Oct. 2, with the focus on “criminal aliens and individuals who have violated U.S. immigration laws.”According to officials, arrests were made in San Diego, Encinitas, Vista, Lakeside, National City, Poway, Fallbrook, Spring Valley, Escondido, Oceanside, and San Marcos.In a news release, ICE officials said:“Of those arrested, 10 were the direct result of sanctuary state laws that force local law enforcement not to honored a lawfully issued immigration detainer. Two arrests were the direct result of the law enforcement agency releasing the individuals prior to ICE being able to place an immigration detainer on their case.Of those arrested, over 80 percent had prior criminal convictions and/or pending criminal charges. Of those, the criminal offenses included Lewd and Lascivious Acts with a minor under 14 with Force, Domestic Violence, Assault, Possession of Control Substance for Sale, Possession of Control Substance, Vehicle Theft, Burglary, and Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol.One individual who was arrested during the operation will face federal criminal prosecution for having illegally re-entered the U.S. after their removal. Those who were primary targets of this operation have final orders of removal issued by a federal immigration judge. Their due process was completed, and they will be removed from the United States. The individuals who were arrested and require adjudication from an immigration judge will be placed in detention pending the outcome of their removal proceedings.”Gregory Archambeault, Field Office Director for ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations in San Diego, said, “The State of California has chosen to prohibit local law enforcement agencies from cooperating with ICE to protect public safety. These local agencies are forced to release criminal aliens to the street, abandoning the victims of crimes and the innocent members of their communities. ICE is committed to upholding public safety, and the rule of law, by continuing to target, arrest and seek the removal of criminal aliens released from the custody of local law enforcement.” 2345

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — North Park residents will celebrate this holiday season with an annual tradition intact — at least for one more year.For 56 years, the Toyland Parade has delighted crowds in North Park during the holiday season. But much like a parade balloon, financial troubles have loomed over organizers.Last year, the parade was briefly canceled after former-host Victoria House Corporation said it had lost support from sponsors. Angela Landsberg, executive director with North Park Main Street, says support from the local Lions Club has saved 2019's parade, but 2020 is a different story."Our presenting sponsor North Park Lions Club have ensured that it's going to go off this year, but if we don't raise enough money this year to get us carried through our planning for next year, because these things take a long time to plan, then this will be the final year," Landsberg told 10News. The organization is asking for the community to once again step in to make sure the parade steps off on University Avenue next year. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- North County leaders, including city mayors and Supervisor Jim Desmond, joined Legoland officials Friday morning in a press conference demanding answers from the state as to when and how they can reopen.They said a letter was sent last week to Gov. Gavin Newsom requesting that the state implement protocols to abide by to reopen, similar to what they established with schools.Legoland's park is mainly outdoors and has been closed since March. Their hotel opened in July and hotel guests can access the main promenade but the park wants to open its doors to the public. The park's president, Kurt Stocks, said Legoland has implemented safety guidelines for the attraction to operate outdoors with sanitizer stations, distance markers and temperature checks upon entering. Stocks said he and city leaders believe the state needs to implement guidelines for all businesses across San Diego county, indoor and outdoor, so employees who were furloughed or laid off can get back to work. At Friday's press conference, leaders also stated they constantly receive calls from residents with questions as to when they can open their businesses back up and hope to provide them with answers sooner than later. "We've heard very little and I recognize the state has to make decisions for businesses across California. but what we're doing today is calling on the state to recognize that San Diego attractions are safe to open." 1445

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — One person was killed and police were searching for a suspect after a shooting in the Chollas Creek neighborhood.San Diego Police said one victim was transported to a nearby hospital after the shooting at about 2:30 p.m. Friday in the 5200 block of University Avenue.Police later confirmed the victim died of their injuries.Police were still searching for a gunman following the shooting. SDPD's homicide unit has taken over the investigation.Delays for drivers are expected in the area on University Ave., police added.No further information was immediately available. 596

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- One man was shot after a fight broke out near a house party in San Diego’s Jamacha-Lomita neighborhood late Saturday night. According to police, the shooting happened on the 1100 block of Koe Street at 11 p.m. Witnesses told police a fight broke out in the street near the house party before shots were fired. Police say the suspect left the scene while the victim was taken to Paradise Valley Hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound. The suspect was taken into custody after he was found at a nearby 7-Eleven with a gun in his car. At this time, the names of the suspect and victim haven’t been released. 645
