FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Police have arrested a 14-year-old girl after they say she was behind the wheel of a car that reversed into a patrol car twice -- once with the officer inside -- and led them on a pursuit before crashing into a fence. The girl is facing several felony charges.Police say they were called to a local RaceTrac on Saturday to investigate a suspicious car. When they got on scene, they found a 14-year-old girl behind the wheel. They say she then reversed into the patrol car twice, the second time while the officer was inside, then took off.She led police on a nearly mile-long pursuit until she crashed her car into a fence. The panel of the metal fence was destroyed. Shyvonne Jackson said he was leaving work when he saw the commotion. "Someone could have got hurt. Some kids could have gotten hurt. Somebody could have got their life taken away," he said. The girl is now facing multiple charges, including 10 counts of hit-and-run with property damage and six counts of aggravated battery on an officer.  1090

Football coach Derrick Clark was a convicted drug dealer when he was hired two seasons ago for New Haven Endeavour Middle School in New Haven, Michigan. Now he’s in jail facing serious sex charges.  School Superintendent Todd Robinson talked with Jim Kiertzner, investigator for Scripps station WXYZ in Detroit and said he knew Clark had some criminal past, saying “Not to the extent that you’re sharing with me now.”  Robinson would not say what his understanding of it was. “I don’t want to make any more comment about it at this time.” Robinson also would not answer if he would still hire him if he knew what he knows today.State records show Clark was convicted of drug possession and running a drug house and was on probation from 2009 to 2014. For more than a decade, Dawn Comstock has studied sports injuries among high school athletes, collecting data from hundreds of high schools across the country.She says after going over all the numbers, something began to stand out about men and women’s lacrosse.“We really just set out to ask the question, "how much of the concussions of girls lacrosse could be directly attributed to the fact that they are prohibited from wearing the hard shell helmet with the full facemask that’s required in boys lacrosse?" said Comstock.Ann Kitt Carpenetti from US Lacrosse says the differences create almost a different game with different issues.“The game rules are different, the culture is different, we do recognize that injuries do occur in both games," said Carpenetti.There’s no body checking, basically a running shove, in women’s lacrosse like there is in the men’s game. Because of that rule, women's lacrosse players don't wear helmets.But Comstock and fellow professor Sarah Fields found that rule isn't keeping female players from getting hurt.“What we found was 72.7% of all of the concussions among girls high school lacrosse players resulted from being struck by a stick or a ball," said Comstock.Almost three quarters of concussions among women's players have nothing to do with player-to-player contact.The researchers estimated that by requiring them to wear helmets, they could reduce the total concussions in the sport by 45%“61.5% of the concussions that resulted from being hit by the stick or the ball in girls lacrosse players could have been prevented if they had been wearing the same helmet the hard shell helmet with the full facemask that boys lacrosse players are required to wear,” said Comstock.US Lacrosse says it has a helmet designed for women’s lacrosse and is testing it in Florida“In terms of the rate of head injuries caused by stick and ball, some concussive, some other, we agree it was notable.
