DENVER —An Aurora, Colorado high school athlete was turned away from a Texas university recently after the school’s head baseball coach told him the school no longer recruits Colorado athletes because of past issues with drug testing. The Cherokee Trail High School student expressed interest in attending Texas Wesleyan University in the Dallas-Fort Worth area on a baseball scholarship but was rejected in an email sent to the student by Head Baseball Coach Mike Jeffcoat.Jeffcoat writes, “Thanks for the interest in our program. Unfortunately, we are not recruiting players from the state of Colorado. In the past, players have had trouble passing our drug test. We have made a decision to not take a chance on Student-athletes from your state. You can thank your liberal politicians. Best of Luck wherever you decide to play.”Although not explicitly mentioned in the email, Jeffcoat is likely referring to Colorado's recreational marijuana laws. The university said it is aware of the email and is investigating the matter. David Pecker, the head of the company that publishes the National Enquirer, was granted immunity in the federal investigation into President Donald Trump's former attorney Michael Cohen in exchange for providing information on hush money deals, according to the Wall Street Journal.Pecker, the CEO of American Media Inc., told federal prosecutors that Trump had knowledge of Cohen's payments to women who had alleged sexual encounters with him, sources familiar with the matter told CNN. Days after the release of the Sterling Brown arrest video, the Milwaukee Police Union president said using a stun gun on the NBA player might have been the right thing to do.The Milwaukee Police Association President Mike Crivello told Scripps radio station 620 WTMJ in Milwaukee, it is possible those officers did the right thing."If they didn't feel as though they were getting control of him before he could get control of whatever that was in his pocket. Tasing may have been appropriate," Crivello said.Crivello said he could not see what was happening during the struggle with Brown after an officer asked him to take his hands out of his pockets. That was right before Brown was taken to the ground and stunned.He also suggested the use of a stun gun could have been prevented if officers always worked with a partner. That's something the MPD Chief Alfonso Morales said he's focused on."We have worked exhaustively in the last three months to really try to figure out how we are going to handle this situation and move forward from it," Morales said.The Milwaukee police chief answered some questions about the video Wednesday, but still is not saying much.Morales has known this moment was coming when he and his department would be responding to the stunning and handcuffing of Brown. "We're really working at putting our officers back at the district. DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV) - For the past five days, five shark sightings have been reported off North San Diego County beaches, Del Mar lifeguards tell 10News. A juvenile shark, about 5 feet long, was spotted Friday afternoon. It did not show signs of aggressive behavior, lifeguards said. The water was not cleared of swimmers and surfers. Del Mar’s shark sightings started Monday and have continued every day this week. Sighting locations include 15th and 29th streets, City of Del Mar officials reported. Drew Pierce, who went to Del Mar to avoid triple-digit heat in Temecula, was in the water Wednesday when he saw several 3-4 foot long sharks. They tend to eat smaller fish and pose no threat to people, Dewar said. Dewar recommends avoiding beaches at dusk and dawn, avoiding river mouths, and monitoring shark warning signs.
