(KGTV) - Two prominent San Diego County leaders are in Washington, D.C., Wednesday to meet with President Trump about California’s sanctuary state laws.County Supervisor Kristin Gaspar and Escondido Mayor Sam Abed are among the 16 California leaders who visited the White House to discuss California’s role in the national immigration landscape with the president.In April, both Abed’s city and the County Board of Supervisors voted in favor of supporting the Trump administration’s lawsuit against California over its sanctuary policies."Each of you has bravely resisted California's deadly and unconstitutional sanctuary state laws," Trump told the group gathered in Washington, D.C.During the Wednesday round table, Trump thanked the leaders, saying they had “bravely resisted California’s deadly and unconstitutional sanctuary state laws.Trump claimed those laws are forcing "the release of illegal immigrant criminals, drug dealers, gang members and violent predators into your communities" and providing "safe harbor to some of the most vicious and violent offenders on earth."Trump also said during the meeting that opposition to the sanctuary state laws are growing, adding that "There's a revolution going on in California."Gaspar told the president, "If you look around this room; your tiny but might team; this is what Gov. (KGTV) - The nearing Deferred Action for Childhood Act deadline is prompting artists to get their take immigrants' experiences out before the government’s decision.San Diego Border Dreamers hosted a fundraiser featuring all immigration-related art. More than 40 artists from around California donated various works for the show that was held at Bread and Salt in Barrio Logan.All proceeds from the artwork sold went the group and effort to get a clean DACA bill.“I hope with this we are able to enlighten people about our experience for those that are not fully aware what we go through,” said Dulce Garcia, a DACA recipient.  659

(KGTV) - Suspected drug smugglers were rescued by U.S. Coast Guard crews this month after their vessel erupted into flames before sinking.Crews from the Coast Guard, Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations (AMO), the U.S. Navy ship USS Zephyr, and the Colombian Navy ship ARC "07 de Agosto" detected the high-speed vessel on April 7 in the eastern Pacific Ocean.As crews prepared to intercept the vessel, the suspected smugglers allegedly began abandoning their cargo and jumped from the boat as it caught fire.Crews rescued four suspected smugglers and spent 90 minutes extinguishing the flames."There was no doubt in our minds what needed to be done to salvage the evidence needed for a successful prosecution even if it meant laying Zephyr alongside a burning hull, with the intense heat and acrid smoke hindering our 90-minute firefight," Lt. Cmdr. Grant Greenwell, the commanding officer of the Zephyr, said.After putting out the fire, crews say they recovered about 1,080 pounds of cocaine. The four suspected smugglers were transferred to custody aboard the Zephyr.The suspected drug vessel was severely damaged and sunk as it was a hazard to navigation. 1195

I don't know if I can say retiring, but he's a great guy," Trump told a pool of reporters outside the White House before departing to Pennsylvania for the Army-Navy football game. A 3-year-old girl was found safe after spending almost 24 hours in the woods on her own.Abby Ladwig went missing August 9, along with her family’s dog Peanut. Abby lives in Sawyer County, Wisconsin, in the northern section of the state and surrounded by forests. Local media reports the girl walked away while her father stepped inside for a few minutes.Her mother, Lisa Koch, posted on Facebook along with pictures of Abby and Peanut.
