SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A man is searching for the good Samaritan who pulled him from a rip current in La Jolla this week.Patrick Fitzpatrick was swimming at Windansea Beach Tuesday."It took a snap second before I was in control to completely out of control," Fitzpatrick recalled, after becoming caught in a rip current. "There was no way on Earth that I was going to live from this. I was in a panic. I couldn't use my arms and legs now."Someone on shore, only known as "Dustin," noticed Fitzpatrick struggling and swam out to help him."He's a guardian angel. He owe him my life, he saved my life," Fitzpatrick says.Dustin swam out and kept Fitzpatrick calm before more help could arrive and get him to shore.Fitzpatrick is hoping to reunite with his mystery rescuer to say thank you."The humanity that comes from an act of kindness like this, from a perfect stranger," Fitzpatrick said. 892

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A man who was attempting to paint graffiti on a downtown building fell to his death Friday morning in East Village. The incident was reported about 8:30 a.m. on 15th Street near Broadway, across from San Diego Police Headquarters. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A man who was injured in a fire above a business near Belmont Park in Mission Beach has died.The San Diego County Medical Examiner's office announced the death of 36-year-old Aaron Porter, Wednesday evening.For the last 20 years, Richard Ghozul has worked at Kojack's Greek and American Food, and has lived in the upstairs apartment. Tuesday morning at around 6 AM, the 70-year-old was fast asleep until flames began crackling above his ceiling. “My apartment [is] gone, everything," Ghozul said. With the help of a lifeguard who ran into the apartments, Ghozul barely made it out alive. But Aaron Porter, the man who just moved in next door, did not. According to the County Medical Examiner, Aaron Porter died at UCSD Medical Center after suffering major thermal injuries.“He is always busy. He works on the fishing boat," Ghozul remembered of Porter. “I’m very sad for him.  Too much smoke happened to him.”Early mornings and late nights, Porter worked at Aztec Sportfishing. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A man sentenced to life behind bars after being convicted of shooting his coworker in his face. Julio Narvaez pleaded guilty to opening fire at his Phamatech company in 2017. "The consequences are something he has to bare," said judge Laura Halgren at his sentencing on Friday. Narvaez pleaded not guilty to shooting his coworker in the face at their Carmel Mountain Ranch office. Police say they got into an argument when Narvaez pulled out a gun from his desk and opened fire. The victim, Michael Limbag, is also the cousin of Narvaez's wife. He's still recovering two years later. "He has hearing loss," said Halgren. "There’s a fragment bullet in his brain that could move at any time. He has headaches every day, nightmares."The defense brought in a neurologist to testify. He said Narvaez may have a connection to Alzheimer's, but could not make a definitive diagnosis. That move then backfired for the defense. "If this really did play a role in Mr. Narvaez’s behavior, then he poses a danger and will continue to pose greater danger," said Halgren. "Whatever degenerative process he has could be offered an explanation for some of the behavior but doesn’t excuse it."Police say Narvaez tried to shoot the victim at least twice, but the gun jammed. He pleaded guilty to attempted murder and use of a firearm with bodily injury. 1362

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A lawsuit was filed on Monday in San Diego County Superior Court against the County of San Diego, Registrar of Voters and other entities related to the ongoing battle over the future of the Julian volunteer fire department. Attorney and mayoral candidate Cory Briggs filed the suit and told 10News that the claim is that a group of former volunteer fire department board members made the decision to dissolve the department in secret meetings, and the County allegedly let it happen. For the past two years, locals have been in a contentious battle over the future of San Diego County's last all-volunteer fire department. Many residents believe the County should take over the department because it has more resources and money.Opponents don't trust the County and think that the department's volunteers can do a better job on their own. This morning, an independent regulatory agency conducted a final vote in favor of dissolving the department. A hearing on this new lawsuit is scheduled for Wednesday morning. 1041
