SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- One month before the start of the new school year, San Diego Unified School District released the details of its online learning plan for the 2020-2021 school year.The school district's plans were created over weeks of discussions with parents, students, educators and administrators. San Diego Unified will start the school year Aug. 31. Details of the online learning plan include:A six-hour school day with customized learning experiences for each K-12 studentAll students will have daily, live interaction with their teachers via video conferencingCustom learning experiences will be based on student needs and will include daily live, online instruction (up to three hours), independent learning (at least two hours), working with other students in small groups or participating in educator office hours (at least one hour)All Elementary students will receive instruction in reading, writing, mathematics, science, social studies, physical education, and the artsStudents will receive grades to measure their progress“We continue working to bring all students back to campus as soon as it is safe and responsible to do so. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — One man has died after a hit-and-run outside Sharp Memorial Hospital in Kearny Mesa, after he had reportedly been discharged from the hospital.San Diego Police said a 61-year-old man was in the southbound land in the 3000 block of Health Center Dr. when they were hit by an unknown vehicle just after 5:30 p.m. The vehicle fled the scene after hitting the man, SDPD said.The man was taken to the hospital, where he died.Police told ABC 10News at the scene that the man had reportedly just been discharged from the hospital before he was hit by the vehicle.SDPD Traffic Division was investigating the collision. The victim's name was not immediately released.Health Center Dr. and Frost St. were closed following the hit-and-run for investigators. 773

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - On Monday afternoon, two brothers were sentenced in connection to the deadly freeway shooting of a Navy sailor who stopped to be a good Samaritan.Edson Acuna and Brandon Acuna learned their sentences following the 2018 shooting death of Navy sailor Curtis Adams. Edson Acuna was given a term of life without the possibility of parole plus 25 years to life plus 27 years and four months. He was ordered to pay ,000 in restitution and pay for associated fines. “He's going to be in prison for the rest of his life until he takes his last breath and I think that will give him time to pay these from prison wages,” the judge told the courtroom.Edson Acuna was convicted by jury of first degree murder while Brandon Acuna pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter. On Monday, Brandon Acuna was sentenced to 13 years in prison.Prosecutors argued that they burglarized a car outside of a Mount Hope home which led to a shootout with the homeowner. They tried to get away but a blown-out tire caused them to stall on the freeway. Adams stopped to help but Edson Acuna shot him after thinking that he was the homeowner from the shootout earlier in the night.Harvey Liberato and Susana Galvan were also in the brothers’ car and have entered plea agreements.The judge concluded the hearing by telling the courtroom that he hopes both men reflect in the years to come on the magnitude of the loss that their actions caused. 1441

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Once election results start to come in, some of the races could be so close to call that they could lead to legal battles in court. Eugene Volokh, a constitutional law professor at UCLA, explained that it is likely some races could be so close that we won't know the results for a few days, maybe even weeks. When it comes to the presidential race, Volokh said that if the results are a landslide, the likelihood of legal challenges are close to none. If it's a tight race, Volokh said we could see litigation in states where it is just too close to call. Recounts are also possible, but the professor said that it wouldn't be a national recount; instead, it would only focus on the states that have tight races. Across the country, there have already been some legal battles. In Houston, a federal judge refused to invalidate nearly 127,000 drive-thru mail-in ballots following a lawsuit filed by a group of Republicans. In Nevada, a judge rejected another GOP lawsuit aiming to stop early voting over signature-matching software and observers when votes are being counted. If there is need for legal action, in any of the races, Volokh said it would likely be resolved in a couple of weeks. 1221
