House Majority Whip Steve Scalise has been released from a Washington, DC, hospital following a "successful" surgery, according to MedStar Washington Hospital Center.The hospital released a statement Saturday saying the Louisiana Republican was discharged from the hospital and "the planned surgery was successful." The congressman "will be recovering at home for the next several days," the statement added.The congressman's Twitter account also shared the statement. CNN reported earlier this month that Scalise was beginning a "series of planned, inpatient procedures" while continuing to recover from injuries he sustained in a shooting last year.Scalise suffered a gunshot wound last summer when a gunman opened fire at a congressional baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia.In September, Scalise returned to Congress for the first time since the attack, saying at the time that he is "a living example that miracles really do happen."  957

HOUSTON (AP) — The Supreme Court has rejected a lawsuit backed by President Donald Trump to overturn Joe Biden's election victory, ending a desperate attempt to get legal issues rejected by state and federal judges before the nation's highest court. The court's order Friday was its second this week rebuffing Republican requests that it get involved in the 2020 election outcome. In a blog post, Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas said that Texas "has not demonstrated a judicially cognizable interest in the manner in which another State conducts its elections." "We do not have the discretion to deny the filing of a bill of complaint in a case that falls within our original jurisdiction," the justices said in the brief.According to a press release from the Republican Party of Texas, which was obtained by ABC News' Adam Kelsey, the decision by the justices would have huge ramifications that would possibly see law-abiding states banding together to form a Union of states that will abide by the constitution. 1031

Bush.The Republican former President died on Friday at the age of 94. On Monday, his body was brought to the US Capitol rotunda where Bush will lie in state until Wednesday morning, an honor reserved for government officials and military officers.Democrats and Republicans remain locked in a standoff over funding for President Donald Trump's border wall that could trigger a partial government shutdown in the coming days and Washington is still reeling from a divisive midterm campaign season where the leaders of both parties were targets and Trump frequently went on the attack on the campaign trail.But for at least a few hours, the two parties appeared to put their political differences aside.As crowds began to gather outside, a ceremony was held inside the rotunda where Capitol Hill's highest-ranking Republican and Democratic lawmakers joined together in paying tribute to the former President.Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer stood side-by-side as a wreath was placed alongside the casket.
