SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego's flu season has hit a record high.More than 20,000 lab-confirmed cases have been reported this season in San Diego, according to the County Health and Human Services Agency. The 20,131 total this season is the highest recorded number of lab-confirmed cases since city leaders began tracking the virus 20 years ago.At this time last season, there were only 5,203 lab-confirmed cases.RELATED: CDC says flu season finally peaked but that it's far from over"The high number is the result of an unusually severe flu season but also due to better reporting and tracking by the local medical community and the County,” Wilma Wooten, County public health officer, said.There have been 247 new flu cases reported in the last week. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego State University officials say two students have tested positive for coronavirus, but that the cases are not connected and the risk to the campus is low.A statement on behalf of the campus said the school confirmed Wednesday the two students had tested positive and that both students live off-campus. The students were tested by the college's Student Health Services.The two cases are not believed to be connected to any reported off-campus gatherings, the school statement said.
