BOGOTA, Feb. 16 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping and his Colombian counterpart Francisco Santos agreed here on Monday that bilateral cooperation is to be strengthened as several agreements were signed.     During talks with Santos, Xi said China and Colombia should continue the deepening of mutual political trust and exert efforts to increase cooperation in terms of commerce and investment. BEIJING, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- Chinese authorities launched a website to handle public complaints regarding irregular practices during the selection and appointment of Party and government officials.     The public is encouraged to log on to the website (www.12380.gov.cn), launched by the Organization Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, to report offences.     The site aims to improve public supervision and to ensure prompt detection and correction of offences involving official selection and appointment, the Organization Department said Thursday in a statement.     Complaints could be filed in anonymity, but real names were preferred, said the website. It requires informants to report problems truthfully and warns that fabrication and false charges could lead to legal punishment.     The website also said it mainly handles complaints about officials above the county level.     To prevent malicious or repetitious reporting and junk mail, informants can only submit a maximum of five complaints from one computer in a single day.     The Organization Department had already set up a report center for offences in official selection and appointment. In 2004, it opened an informant's hotline (12380).

BEIJING, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Top political advisor Jia Qinglin met visiting Taiwan journalists here Thursday, expecting media to bridge the two sides of the Taiwan Strait.     Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), urged media on both sides to improve cooperation and exchanges as a bridge between people across the Strait.     Their cooperation will help create a favorable environment for cross-Straits exchanges and encourage people on both sides to work for peaceful development, he said, when meeting with journalists from the Taiwan-based United Daily News (UDN) headed by Duncan Wang, chief executive officer (CEO) of UDN Group.     Jia appreciated the efforts UDN has made to improve relations and promote cooperation across the Strait.     The two sides of the Strait have seen favorable interaction since last year, while the relations headed for a peaceful development, he said. "We hope people on both sides can benefit from the improving ties and the region can remain in peace and stability."
