SAN DIEGO (KGTV)-- Thousands of members of the LGBTQ Community and their allies lined the streets of Hillcrest to celebrate the San Diego Pride Parade Saturday morning. More than 200 floats were on display at this year's event. We asked the crowd, "What does "Pride" mean to you?""It means finally being able to live out and proud.""It's the freedom to celebrate who we are.""Love our neighbor as ourselves and love God!"Some have been coming to the San Diego Pride Parade for decades. "Oh my gosh, she's been 26 years of marching in pride with me," Dana Harwood said of her mother. "...And I love my lesbian daughter!" her mother, Bobbi said. For others, this year's parade is their debut to the world. "Fours months ago, I started my transition," Grace McBride said. "I am just so happy now that I came out to be authentic."For 55 years, people called her Dale. But today, she is proudly Grace."Dale was struggling. Dale was a Marine. Dale worked for the cable company, and anymore now I just want to share the love," McBride said. It has been a long struggle for the LGBTQ community. The most notable moment was the Stonewall Riots in 1969, where New York Police raided LGBTQ members staying at the Stonewall Inn. "Stonewall gave us a sense of freedom. A sense of power," Drag Queen Vera Del Mar said.Vera Del Mar grew up in National City but now lives in Tucson. She made it a point to make it back to her hometown Pride this year."I had to show off my new hairdo!" she said.What was once considered 'underground' or 'shameful' has now become part of mainstream culture, even mainstream media. This year, many familiar faces of the 10News team joined the 10News float and greeted parade-goers. 14-year-old Alexis Engelmann came out as lesbian last year. She says she is lucky to have her entire family in her corner. "It's cool because it's not really different at all," her younger brother Mile said. "We just like to support her and help her succeed in life."Like the thousands of people at the parade, Alexis is proud. She is celebrating, not hiding her Pride. "I love them [my family] so much, and I am so grateful," Alexis said. If you missed the Pride Parade this morning, there are plenty of other things to do around Hillcrest. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Facebook left millions of user passwords readable by its employees for years, the company acknowledged Thursday after a security researcher exposed the lapse .By storing passwords in readable plain text, Facebook violated fundamental computer-security practices. Those call for organizations and websites to save passwords in a scrambled form that makes it almost impossible to recover the original text."There is no valid reason why anyone in an organization, especially the size of Facebook, needs to have access to users' passwords in plain text," said cybersecurity expert Andrei Barysevich of Recorded Future.Facebook said there is no evidence its employees abused access to this data. But thousands of employees could have searched them. The company said the passwords were stored on internal company servers, where no outsiders could access them.The incident reveals yet another huge and basic oversight at a company that insists it is a responsible guardian for the personal data of its 2.2 billion users worldwide.The security blog KrebsOnSecurity said Facebook may have left the passwords of some 600 million Facebook users vulnerable. In a blog post , Facebook said it will likely notify "hundreds of millions" of Facebook Lite users, millions of Facebook users and tens of thousands of Instagram users that their passwords were stored in plain text.Facebook Lite is a version designed for people with older phones or low-speed internet connections. It is used primarily in developing countries.Last week, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg touted a new "privacy-focused vision " for the social network that would emphasize private communication over public sharing. The company wants to encourage small groups of people to carry on encrypted conversations that neither Facebook nor any other outsider can read.The fact that the company couldn't manage to do something as simple as encrypting passwords, however, raises questions about its ability to manage more complex encryption issues — such in messaging — flawlessly.Facebook said it discovered the problem in January. But security researcher Brian Krebs wrote that in some cases the passwords had been stored in plain text since 2012. Facebook Lite launched in 2015 and Facebook bought Instagram in 2012.Recorded Future's Barysevich said he could not recall any major company caught leaving so many passwords exposed internally. He said he's seen a number of instances where much smaller organizations made such information readily available — not just to programmers but also to customer support teams.Security analyst Troy Hunt, who runs the "haveibeenpwned.com" data breach website, said that the situation is embarrassing for Facebook, but that there's no serious, practical impact unless an adversary gained access to the passwords. But Facebook has had major breaches, most recently in September when attackers accessed some 29 million accounts .Jake Williams, president of Rendition Infosec, said storing passwords in plain text is "unfortunately more common than most of the industry talks about" and tends to happen when developers are trying to rid a system of bugs.He said the Facebook blog post suggests storing passwords in plain text may have been "a sanctioned practice," although he said it's also possible a "rogue development team" was to blame.Hunt and Krebs both likened Facebook's failure to similar stumbles last year on a far smaller scale at Twitter and Github; the latter is a site where developers store code and track projects. In those cases, software bugs were blamed for accidentally storing plaintext passwords in internal logs.Facebook's normal procedure for passwords is to store them encoded, the company noted Thursday in its blog post.That's good to know, although Facebook engineers apparently added code that defeated the safeguard, said security researcher Rob Graham. San Diego City Council Tuesday night unanimously passed the location of a high-pressure underground pipeline to move sewage from San Diego's Morena treatment plant to a facility in Miramar. Residents say they're concerned the pipeline could break, wreaking havoc on the area. "Our concern is if that line was ruptured, bnecause it's under so miuch pressure, that it would spew raw sewage into the environment," said Ruth DeSantis, a longtime U.C. resident who heads the area's community foundation. DeSantis added that neighbors are concerned over traffic, noise, property values, and even smells seeping out of vents. There's a middle school, park, and hundreds of homes nearby. The city says it took various measures to minimize health and safety hazards, although some impacts like noise and traffic are unavoidable during construction.San Diego spokesman Jerry McCormick added that sewage geysers would not be possible under the pipeline system."Unlike a potable water system, where there are multiple loops to provide continuous pressure and in time of a rupture must be isolated by multiple valves, often times creating large releases of water, this system will not operate like that," McCormick said. "Instead, if there is a rupture, we can shut down the pumps and the flow will come to a very abrupt and quick stop."Community groups in University City are now teaming up with those in Clairemont to fight the project."We can put everything in Clairemont and Clairemont is sleeping, and I just wanted to say, that's not right," said Roseline Feral, of the nonprofit Clairemont Town Council. The city is aiming to have about a third of its water supply be reclaimed water by 2035.
