Scientists are warning that a domino effect will kick in if global temperatures rise more than 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels, leading to "hothouse" conditions and higher sea levels, making some areas on Earth uninhabitable.The report, "Trajectories of the Earth System in the Anthropocene," published Monday in the American Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, said "hothouse" temperatures could stabilize 4 degrees to 5 degrees Celsius (39 to 41 Fahrenheit) higher than pre-industrial levels."Human emissions of greenhouse gas are not the sole determinant of temperature on Earth. SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — A grandfather accused in the fatal fall of his young granddaughter from an 11th-story window of a cruise ship docked in Puerto Rico last year has pleaded guilty to negligent homicide.Salvatore Anello of Valparaiso, Indiana, earlier said he would drop a not-guilty plea to help end what he called “this nightmare" for his family.Chloe Wiegand, an 18-month-old, slipped from Anello’s grasp and fell about 150 feet from an open window of Royal Caribbean Cruises’ Freedom of the Seas ship in July 2019.Anello, 51, has repeatedly said he is colorblind and did not know the window in the children's play area was open when he lifted Chloe up so she could bang on the glass, WRTV reports.Chloe's parents filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Royal Caribbean Cruises in December 2019, claiming the company violated industry standards by failing to provide reasonably safe windows in an area where children play on the ship.In response, Royal Caribbean filed court documents alleging that Anello was “unquestionably aware” that the window was open because video shows him leaning out of it right before he picked Chloe up and dangled her from it.The documents filed by Royal Caribbean claim Anello's actions were captured on two separate video surveillance cameras, which were previously unreleased. (KGTV) — FBI investigators are asking the public for help finding the suspect who robbed a Chase Bank location in San Marcos on Wednesday.The FBI and San Diego Sheriff's Department say the suspect entered the Chase Bank at 348 South Twin Oaks Valley Road at about 11:45 a.m. and waited in line. He approached the counter and produced a handwritten note that said, "Give me all your 50's and 100's and give me the note back."The teller gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of money and the suspect fled the scene on foot.Investigators described the suspect as a white male, between 25 and 30 years old, standing 5' 11", and with a thin build. SEATTLE, Washington — Calling all Harry Potter fans: Seattle, Washington’s coolest dad has created a wizarding world and we got a look inside this real-life version of Diagon Alley before it began its journey to a new home to help children.Johnathan Chambers said his kids always wanted him to create something special for Halloween."I posed a question to my girls, 'What can we do for Halloween or Christmas?' It was in the summer, to like go big. And one of them said, 'Diagon Alley'," he said.Chambers was fully committed to making this the best Diagon Alley fans had ever seen, but he had to leave his job to accomplish this project.  He decided to create the real-life Diagon Alley in his driveway. Chambers has been a creative director for more than 20 years and focusing on the details was his forte.At this Diagon Alley, muggles are allowed in. They walk into a magical filled with an assortment of shops and items on Hogwarts'  supply list. There is Olivander’s Wand Shop, Eyelops' Owl Emporium, Madam Malkin’s Robes for all Occasions and Flourish and Blotts where students buy their school books.Once word got out about the Diagon Alley Project, fans from around the world flocked to see this wizarding world in Washington.“They walk in the door and some of them have burst into tears. It’s been incredible," Chambers said.From overzealous screams, hysterical cries and a few marriage proposals, the Diagon Alley Project became a bigger success than Chambers ever imagined.As thousands of muggles roamed through their fantastical getaway, Chambers and his family realized they had an opportunity to make an even bigger difference. They decided to collect donations from visitors to raise money for cancer research. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — University of California President Janet Napolitano, who oversaw historic expansions of the 10-campus system and championed immigrant students, but whose management structure faced criticism and embarrassing scrutiny, said Wednesday she will step down in August 2020.Napolitano, a former homeland security secretary and Democratic governor of Arizona, made the announcement at a meeting of the university system's Board of Regents in Los Angeles."My time at UC has been deeply gratifying and rewarding. I have been honored and inspired every day to serve this institution alongside incredibly dedicated, passionate people," Napolitano said in a statement. "The decision was tough — and this moment, bittersweet — but the time is right."Napolitano, 61, has battled a recurrence of breast cancer but said her health is good and did not play a role in her decision to step down."All of my tests are clear. So that was not a factor in my decision," Napolitano told reporters in a conference call, saying she will complete her seventh year in the job before stepping down."It seemed like a good time to have some fresh blood at the University of California," she said.During her tenure, Napolitano has overseen an expansion of the public university system, enrolling historic numbers of students and making it easier for in-state students to transfer from community colleges to the university system.She oversaw reforms of policies on sexual misconduct and was a staunch supporter of the rights of immigrant students.In 2017, the university joined a lawsuit challenging the Trump administration's decision to rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, an action that led to injunctions that allowed hundreds of thousands of DACA recipients to extend their authorization to legally live and work in the U.S., including students in the UC system.But Napolitano also was criticized by state lawmakers after a state audit found problems with her office's financial management. A report from State Auditor Elaine Howle in 2016 found that Napolitano's office failed to disclose millions of dollars in reserve funds.It also said Napolitano's top aides had sought to suppress campus criticism of her office in surveys that were supposed to be confidential and sent directly to the state auditor.The investigators found that Napolitano had approved of the plan to review the survey responses. The audit said there was "insufficient evidence" to conclude that she knew of the full range of what her staff was up to or that she directly approved of any interference. But the investigation and subsequent oversight prompted a rare public rebuke by the UC's governing Board of Regents.Napolitano had a distinguished career before coming to California. As a partner in a prominent Phoenix law firm, she represented Anita Hill during the Senate Judiciary Committee's confirmation hearings for Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas in 1991.
