(KGTV) - Loved ones are mourning the COVID-related death of an Oceanside grandfather who worked security on the Sprinter train.Matthys Kemp, 67, first became sick around mid-September."A cough and fever. Just thought he was coming down with a bug," said daughter Rinali HillNot long after, his symptoms got worse. Hill says on September 20th, he ended up in the ER."They admitted him. He had double pneumonia and COVID," said Hill.After two weeks on oxygen, Kemp was placed on a ventilator and sedated. He developed a blood clot in his leg and kidney issues.On November 1, Kemp, a father of two and grandfather of three, passed away."Just glad he's not in pain anymore," said a tearful Hill.Hill says her father was kind, generous and well-liked."He definitely had a huge smile and huge heart for everybody," said Hill.Hill says Kemp worked with the North County Transit District for the past decade, including the last five years for the contractor that provides security on the Sprinter train."He loved his job. Felt like he had a purpose, showing up every day in his vest. Felt like it was his Superman cape. Took pride in getting people to their destinations," said Hill.Hill isn't sure where her father contracted the virus, but says he was diligent about wearing a mask at work.His long-held wish, known to his family for years, was to have his body donated to science. Hill says when she reached out to local research facilities, they say it wouldn't be possible because of his COVID-19 diagnosis."That’s what he wanted and unfortunately we couldn’t do that for him," said Hill.Hill is now sharing her father's story, urging others to take precautions."Please wear a mask ... This virus can leave behind a family that can’t say goodbye in person, couldn't get hold their hand. One person is dead and seven others injured following a vehicle crash involving an Ypsilanti school bus on eastbound I-94 Tuesday morning.The accident occurred around 10:15 a.m. Pittsfield Township Fire Department, Ann Arbor Fire Department and Michigan State Police responded to the scene after a SUV rear-ended a disabled Ypsilanti school bus at the eastbound I-94 exit.The bus was being provided tow assistance for a flat tire. There were no students on the bus at the time, according to the Ypsilanti School District.Police report that the driver of the vehicle, including three infants inside, were trapped after crashing into the school bus.The three children were transported to the University of Michigan Mott Children's Hospital in serious condition. Two people were transported to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in critical condition, and the tow truck driver was pronounced dead at the scene. He was reportedly at the rear of the bus when the accident happened. According to a release, there were also two additional 'walking wounded' injuries caused from the crash.     1144

OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - A fire broke out Tuesday morning at Fire Station 3 in Oceanside when no first responders were inside to put it out. The flames broke out in a rear dorm room on the second floor adjacent to a furnace in the wall, said Oceanside Fire Department Battalion Chief Scott Stein. People driving by saw the fire at 3101 Oceanside Blvd. and reported it, said Stein. Twenty-seven firefighters from Carlsbad and other stations in Oceanside responded to the scene to put out the fire. The five Oceanside firefighters who were on duty with Station 3 were not available at the time the flames broke out. The second floor of the station was damaged by smoke and flames, Stein said. The first floor had minimal damage. “This is really a hit to the city because it’s centrally located,” Stein said. Although Stein did not have an estimate on when repairs would be completed, he said Fire Station 3 firefighters would be displaced at least a month. “We’re relocating them to other fire stations throughout the city,” said Stein. The investigation into the cause of the fire is being handled by the Vista Fire Department. 1136

(KGTV) — Oceanside Police are investigating the discovery of a body near Capistrano Park Saturday.Police received a call about a body in a river bed near the park at about 1:30 p.m.The body was discovered, but was severely decomposed, police said.It's not known if the victim died of natural causes or if this is a homicide case, police added. 369

ONTARIO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Police arrested a 16-year-old boy after he reportedly killed a duck with a golf club in Ontario Wednesday, according to ABC 7 in Chicago.The teen shared video that appeared to show him striking the duck. The duck’s remains were later found at the Whispering Lakes Golf Course.The 16-year-old was issued a citation for felony animal abuse after being arrested at his home.Members of the Colony High School golfing team were practicing when one of them said they accidentally hit a duck while teeing off.The boy claims he killed the duck to put it out of its misery, however, police say there may be more to the story due to the video being posted on social media. Police have said the investigation is ongoing. 748
