SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego Gas & Electric announced Wednesday that ratepayers will once again have the opportunity to reduce their monthly bill by driving an electric vehicle.SDG&E has made the promotion available to electric vehicle drivers for the last two years in an effort to combat the effects of climate change and reduce the county's collective carbon footprint. The county's roughly 35,000 plug-in electric vehicle drivers can apply for the credit, administered by the California Air Resources Board, though May 31.Last year's Electric Vehicle Climate Credit was 0 for each of the roughly 15,000 residents who applied. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The Poway man accused of running a million dollar Ponzi scheme has pleaded guilty to grand theft and securities fraud. He is slated to be sentenced to a dozen years in state prison next month for orchestrating the scheme that scammed nearly 50 victims, the California Department of Insurance announced Wednesday.Team 10 first spoke to several alleged victims of Dougherty last year. They said he stole the money he was supposed to invest for them. Sheriff's investigators said he targeted the elderly planning for retirement. He offered victims investment opportunities in companies he owned, then used some of their funds for his personal expenses like home remodeling, travel and college tuition, according to officials.A spokesperson for the District Attorney's Office said 47-year-old Christopher Dougherty pleaded guilty to three counts of securities fraud, three counts of grand theft, and admitted to a white collar crime enhancement.Dougherty also used some of the victims' money to pay back other investors "in classic Ponzi fashion," according to the Department of Insurance. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego International Airport broke its passenger traffic record for the fifth consecutive year, serving roughly 24 million passengers in 2018, the Airport Authority announced Friday.The total -- up nearly 10 percent over last year -- included one million international passengers, a 19 percent jump from 2017, according to the Airport Authority, which credited several airlines' expanded service and airport-wide traffic increases for the new record.``This is a tremendous time of growth for not only SAN but the entire San Diego region,'' said Kim Becker, the airport's president and CEO. ``With more people choosing San Diego as their destination of choice, we are looking ahead at projects to accommodate this trend and provide the world-class airport experience our customers and community deserve.''Airlines servicing the airport added 16 new routes throughout the year and 15 of the airport's 17 airlines saw overall traffic increases.According to the Airport Authority, Southwest Airlines added 794,401 passengers from 2017 to 2018, the most of any airline flying out of San Diego. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Sixteen new cases of COVID-19 were reported Saturday by San Diego State University, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 1,064 since Aug. 24, the first day of instruction for the fall semester.The new totals reported by Student Health Services reflect numbers as of 6 p.m. Friday.Of the students living on campus, 380 have tested positive and students living off campus totaled 663 positive cases, health services said. A total of eight faculty or staff members have tested positive and 13 "visitors," people who have had exposure with an SDSU-affiliated individual, have tested positive.The information is based on cases reported to Student Health Services by an individual or by a public health official. As more private labs are administering tests, there is a possibility that not all cases are being reported to Student Health Services.For privacy reasons, SDSU does not report names, affiliations or health conditions of students, faculty or staff who test positive for COVID-19 unless a public health agency advises that there is a health and public safety benefit to reporting such details.The university will also not disclose the specific location of the individual who was infected for privacy reasons and also because avoiding the physical location does not inherently lower a person's risk of infection. 1353

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego Loyal SC announced today it will forfeit the point it received from its 1-1 tie with LA Galaxy II because of a racial slur directed at a Black SD Loyal player.LA Galaxy II defender Omar Ontiveros used the slur in the 71st minute of Wednesday's 1-1 tie at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, according to USL Championship, which suspended Ontiveros Friday for six games.Multiple officials, LA Galaxy II coaching staff and players were in the area, several of whom later acknowledged hearing the exchange, according to SD Loyal.Ontiveros was not disciplined by LA Galaxy II coaching staff or referees.
