HARARE, May 31 (Xinhua) – The Communist Party of China (CPC) and Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe's Zanu-PF on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to promote political exchanges and cooperation between the two parties.This was disclosed by Wang Gang, vice chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference National Committee and member of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, who is leading a high-powered delegation to Zimbabwe.Speaking during a meeting with Zimbabwean Vice President Joice Mujuru and senior Zanu-PF officials on Monday, Wang said the agreement will enable the two parties to consolidate relations and work together in exploring new ways to enhance ties."Guided by this memorandum of understanding for the next five years, our party-to-party relations will have a more in-depth development," Wang said, adding the MOU will see the two parties increasing high level exchange visits and sharing experiences."We very much cherish the friendship between Zimbabwe and China. We view Zimbabwe as a reliable friend and good partner," he said.Wang added China will continue to render assistance to Zimbabwe to help it develop its economy.Wang also called on Western nations to lift sanctions on Zimbabwe to expedite economic recovery in the country.Mujuru paid tribute to China for its economic and political support to Zimbabwe over the years."We know it has not been easy for China to stand by us over difficult times but as Zimbabwe we are grateful for the support," she said.She said Zanu-PF was interested in further developing its relations with CPC, especially in the area of youth and women training and political exchange programs.Wang and his delegation will be in Zimbabwe for three days.

BEIJING, May 14 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu has urged reconstruction authorities to protect the fragile ecosystem and improve living conditions during their work in the quake-hit Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture.Hui was speaking at a meeting held by the State Council on Friday in Beijing to evaluate a report on the reconstruction's impact on resources and the environment.A 7.1-magnitude earthquake jolted Yushu in the Himalayan northwest Qinghai Province on April 14, leaving at least 2,200 deaths.The State Council, or Cabinet, approved the report at the meeting and Hui said reconstruction planners should consider the impact of their projects on the ecosystem.The epicenter of the devastating quake was at the headwaters of three major rivers -- the Yangtze, the Yellow and the Lancang rivers -- that run through China and neighboring countries.The clearing of debris, selection of sites for new towns and development of other industries in the quake area should all prioritize environmental protection, and natural forests as well as vegetative cover should be protected and restored, Hui said.The government has pledged to finish reconstruction work within three years.

KHARTOUM, May 8 (Xinhua) -- Sudanese official said Saturday that the China-Arab Cooperation Forum constitutes an important platform to upgrade the economic, commercial and social ties between China and the Arab world."The China-Arab Cooperation Forum is important as it constitutes one of the major mechanisms to enhance and strengthen the economic and commercial relations between the Arab states and China," Abdul-Baqui Jailani, Sudanese state minister for humanitarian affairs, told Xinhua, one week before a ministerial conference of the China-Arab Cooperation Forum scheduled for May 13, in Tianjin, China.Jailani regarded the Sino-Sudanese cooperation as a model for the Arab countries to follow suit, saying that "Chinese experience in Sudan deserves to be studied thoroughly and it deserves to be repeated elsewhere in any other African or Arab country"."I think if we take for example oil industry, exploration and production services, the Chinese have proved to be at the highest level of development in this industry in particular, and I think we can develop this in other similar countries where there are reserves of petroleum," he added.He went on to say that "China is working with full transparency; they can build confidence with others without any hindrances or obstacles."The Sudanese official further called upon the Arab and African countries as well to give the Chinese a chance to invest and cooperate, adding that "such cooperation will result in mutual benefit for both China and others nations."He affirmed that China's contribution to establishment of development projects in Sudan would help in achieving lasting stability and peace in the country, saying that "for example, if we concentrate on development, on infrastructure, we will come to peace in Darfur. BEIJING, April 8 (Xinhua) -- The People's Liberation Army (PLA) and the Ministry of Education plan to open an online recruitment service for the first time to mobilize college graduates this year, a move seen as an effort to sharpen the army's high-tech edge.The PLA plans to recruit some 150,000 college graduates this year, according to a statement released after a meeting held Thursday by the PLA General Staff Headquarters and the ministry.Last year, China announced a series of preferential policies to encourage more young people with higher education to serve in the army, including a one-off payment of up to 24,000 yuan (3,500 U.S. dollars) for the student-turned soldiers. The money, paid by the central government, roughly equals the tuition cost of a four-year university education in China.Some 130,000 college graduates applied to join the army in 2009 and more than 100,000 were recruited, statistics from the statement show.Moreover, the age limit has been extended to 24 for those with a bachelor degree. The PLA recruits usually recruits men aged between 18 and 20 and women aged 18 or 19.
