JBS Tolleson, Inc. is recalling more than 5.1 million pounds of raw beef products that may be tainted with salmonella, the United States Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service said Tuesday.The recalled beef was produced and packaged between July 26 and September 7 according to FSIS. These can include diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever that last between four and seven days. Yet, the beautiful landscape isn't just the site of a natural divide — it is the site of a digital one as well."The issue came when we had to go total shutdown, total remote," said Allen Pratt, who heads up the National Rural Education Association, representing rural school districts in all 50 states.He said when the pandemic forced students into remote learning, many in rural areas couldn't get on the internet."I think you have to look at it from the sense of, we have to treat this just like the electric power grid, where every home has electricity — it needs to be the same way with connectivity," Pratt said.The Pew Research Center found that more than a quarter of all Americans — 27% — don't have high-speed internet access at home. In terms of students, 9 million schoolchildren are not able to do remote learning at home, according to the National Center for Education Statistics.In Marion County, Tennessee, about 30% of the county's 4,000 students did not have internet access when the pandemic began. Director of Schools Mark Griffith said they relied on hand-delivering paper lesson packets."We would actually take some food and some of the packets out to the rural areas daily," Griffith said.In order to address the problem, the district set up several mobile hotspots throughout the county, including in the parking lots of some of their schools and the school district office. The hotspots seemed to help, as it reduced the number of students without internet access to below 20%.Yet, the district knows it can't reach everyone. This fall, instead of relying solely on internet access, teachers will save recordings of class lessons onto flash drives and hand them out to students who don't have internet access."They will be able to pick up that recording," Griffith said. Jeffrey Sandusky, the son of convicted sex abuser and former Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky, pleaded guilty Friday to all 14 counts of child sexual abuse against him.The Centre Country district attorney's office said the younger Sandusky, 41, entered the guilty pleas a week before his trial was scheduled to begin.The 14 counts included soliciting sex from a child younger than 16 and soliciting child pornography.According to the district attorney's office, Sandusky will become a Tier III sex offender, the highest level in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania."The charges involve incidents with two girls, one in 2013 and one in 2016.The crimes were uncovered late last year when a girl told her father that Sandusky had texted her repeatedly, asking her to send him naked photos.The father contacted the police, and during the investigation, police discovered another girl, known as victim No. 2, who said Sandusky had asked her to engage in oral sex with him years before.Both victims say Sandusky tried to use different excuses to try to get them to participate, saying at one point that he "had studied medicine" and another time that he believed that Victim No. 1 had shared a nude photo with her boyfriend, and he wanted to see it."This outcome also ensures the victims need not suffer the trauma and re-victimization of testifying at trial and importantly, the defendant will have to comply with strict sex offender registration requirements for the remainder of his life," District Attorney Stacy Parks Miller said.According to the district attorney's office, the terms of Sandusky's plea guarantee that he will serve 3 to 6 years in state incarceration "but allows the judge to impose as much as 4 to 8 years of state prison in her discretion at the time of sentencing."Tier III offenders must register with the state police for life and verify their registration information in person four times a year," according to the Pennsylvania Sexual Offenders Assessment Board.Sandusky's defense attorney could not be reached for comment.The-CNN-Wire 2071

Jaelynn Willey, the teen shot in the St. Mary's County School shooting died Thursday evening, the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office reported. "The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, on behalf of the Willey family, advises that on March 22, 2018, at 11:34 pm, Jaelynn Rose Willey died, surrounded by her family. KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Schlitterbahn Waterpark co-owner Jeff Henry has been arrested on charges related to the death of 10-year-old Caleb Schwab. Henry is charged with murder, 12 counts of aggravated battery and five counts of aggravated child endangerment.Henry was taken into custody in Texas and is currently being held by the U.S. Marshal Service.In a statement Monday afternoon, the company said it was not surprised at the charges against Henry."We as a company and as a family will fight these allegations and have confidence that once the facts are presented it will be clear that what happened on the ride was an unforeseeable accident," the statement read.Last week, several criminal charges were filed against Tyler A.
