SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Border officials say they seized more than .1 million in narcotics in two days at ports of entry in San Diego and Imperial Valley counties.Monday, a 45-year-old Mexican citizen driving a commercial bus was stopped at the San Ysidro port of entry and underwent a secondary screening. A K9 officer detected narcotics in the vehicle's gas tank.Officers found 229 pounds of cocaine, 23 pounds of fentanyl, and more than six pounds of heroin in the gas tank. In a second incident, on Tuesday, agents stopped a 23-year-old U.S. citizen at the Calexico East port of entry and referred them to a secondary screening. The port's imaging system screened the vehicle and noticed an anomoly in the back seat. A K9 officer also made a positive detection.Officers discovered 73 wrapped packages of methamphetamine hidden in the back seat, firewall, glove box, and inside vehicle panels.Later that same day, at the Calexico West port of entry, a 35-year-old Mexican citizen was found to be smuggling narcotics in the same manner.Imaging and a K9 officer detected narcotics, leading officers to find 50 wrapped packaged of methamphetamine inside vehicle panels.CBP officials seized all of the narcotics, valued together at more than .1 million.“Seizing these 400 plus pounds of narcotics is not only about keeping drugs out of our communities,” said Pete Flores, Director of Field Operations for CBP in San Diego. “It’s also about keeping millions of dollars in profits away from transnational criminal organizations, and preventing the ensuing crime and chaos they cause on both sides of the border." 1617

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Caltrans is warning drivers that a portion of northbound SR-125 will close Sunday.According to Caltrans, northbound SR-125 will close from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. between SR-905 and Birch Road.The north and southbound shoulder bike lane between SR-905 and Birch Road will also close between the same hours.According to Caltrans, the closure is for the testing of new technology, though the agency didn’t specify what technology it will be testing. 468

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Chief Edward Gallagher has retired weeks after it was determined his rank would remain intact, an attorney confirmed. In late November, Gallagher and three other SEALs were notified that a board of peers would determine whether or not they should remain SEALs, the Associated Press reported. President Donald Trump then ordered the Navy to allow Gallagher to retire as a SEAL with his rank intact. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - By a unanimous vote, the San Diego City Council voted Monday to hike pedicab fees, making it nearly twice as costly to be a pedicab driver.      Police say the increase for annual operator fees from 2 to 9 is needed because of extra enforcement, including aggressive inspections and undercover operations targeting price gouging.Ali Horuz, who manages four different pedicab companies, says the higher fees will be a hardship, especially for drivers getting into the business.  He says right now, the local market is short about 50 drivers."It's going to be harder to find qualified drivers. We're competing against Uber and Lyft. It's definitely going to affect the market, where we are going to see fewer pedicab drivers," said Horuz.While the number of drivers is shrinking, the regulations may be increasing.  Citing complaints from the community, Councilman Chris Ward wants the city to set a uniform rate structure, while banning loud horns, flashing lights and amplified music. Horuz says the lights and loud horns are needed safety precautions, while overly loud music is a product of a few bad drivers.A council committee will look at the proposal Wednesday. 1240
