The service has also helped the eatery stay alive. In true holiday spirit, customers will see Santa and his Christmas elves deliver their food right to their car."If we could just dress up a little bit, and feel good about it, we can spread that positive energy in these tough times," says restaurant general manager Samantha Scholl.Scholl calls the last nine months devastating and an emotional roller coaster. She had to layoff close to 30 of her staff since March "We've had to pivot and change, and then we had to shut down and re-open. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — While San Diego's Big Bay Boom and other popular fireworks shows are canceled this year, there are a handful of drive-in style events happening this weekend.In Vista, Poway, El Cajon, and Santee, fireworks displays are being hosted with social distancing in mind. Some of the shows require a ticket purchase to get prime viewing in a physical distancing atmosphere, or viewers can find street parking where allowed.Those who live nearby only need to look out their window!Fireworks displays have been canceled throughout much of California to limit gatherings and curb the spread of COVID-19. At any shows still being held, officials urge viewers to wear facial coverings and social distance around non-household members. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — USO San Diego's annual "Santa Store" event kicks off with a special event Tuesday night at their downtown office.The event allows children of military service members to pick a free present they can give their parents as a holiday gift."It just helps give a little more holiday cheer for our service members who do so much to keep us safe and secure at home," USO San Diego CEO Lorin Stewart told 10News.Volunteers collected and wrapped thousands of presents, including watches, tool kits, headphones, makeup kits, and handbags. The parents stay outside the Santa while USO San Diego volunteers help the children select the right gift. "They love being able to talk about what mom and dad are into and what they like, and then have that surprise under the tree," said military spouse Ashley Camak, who organizes the annual event. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — University of San Diego is sidelining its plans to return to some form of on-campus classes this fall unless given approval by state and local officials.A statement from USD President James Harris read that due to the rising number of cases locally and in California, as well as the lack of reopening guidance for colleges, they will offer remote learning for all fall undergraduate and graduate courses.The undergraduate semester is still set to begin on Aug. 17, according to the school."At the time of my original announcement, the number of daily cases of COVID-19 in San Diego County was approximately 100, and given the shut-down order then in place, we were optimistic the situation would be much improved by the Fall," Harris' statement read. "Instead, the number of daily cases skyrocketed, and San Diego is now averaging more than 400 cases per day."With less than a month to go before we begin Fall classes for undergraduates, we have reached the point where a final decision has to be made."Originally, the campus planned to offer in-person courses as part of a hybrid approach to the academic year. USD says it can still pivot to the planned hybrid model if conditions improve. The school added that the campus will also continue to offer students options for remote or in-person classes when they receive permission to move forward with the plan."The good news is that all of the great work of the task forces preparing for the Fall will benefit us as we move forward. Due to their continuing efforts, we are prepared to pivot to our planned hybrid approach of both in-person and remote instruction when conditions improve and allow us to do so," according to USD. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) --  On Monday a settlement was reached in two cases against San Diego Sheriff's Deputy Richard Fischer. Those settlements come to a total of more than 0,000. 10News has been covering the story since November when a victim shared her story with Reporter Steve Fiorina. The Sheriff's Department opened an investigation into Fischer last fall after a woman claimed he groped her while responding to a service call.The investigation then expanded to more than a dozen incidents against Fischer dating back to 2015.RELATED: San Diego County sheriff's deputy accused of sexual misconduct pleads not guiltyThe 32-year-old deputy is on unpaid leave and out on bail pending criminal court cases. At his February arraignment in a Vista courtroom, Fischer pleaded not guilty to all charges.
