SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 17-year-old girl was shot Tuesday morning during an argument inside a Rolando apartment, San Diego police said.Shortly after 12:35 a.m., a security guard reported hearing an argument followed by a gunshot inside of an apartment in the 4700 block of Seminole Drive, near Stanley Avenue off 63rd Street and El Cajon Boulevard, San Diego Police Officer Robert Heims said.The security guard also reported seeing people run away after the shooting, Heims said. Officers responded to the scene and found that a 17-year-old girl had been shot in the left neck/jaw area.The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment of her injuries, which were not believed to be life-threatening, the officer said.A detailed suspect description was not immediately available. 782

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 26-year-old motorcyclist was killed Saturday after losing control of his bike, hitting the center median curb and continuing across the lanes of Scripps Poway Parkway in the Miramar Ranch area, San Diego police said.The crash took place on the Scripps Poway Parkway, near 11800 Spruce Run Dr., at 1 a.m., SDPD Officer J. Buttle said.The motorcyclist riding a 2017 Yamaha was moving at a high rate of speed, and failed to negotiate the rightward bend in the road, Buttle said. The man ended up along the south curb line.He was pronounced dead at the scene, Buttle said. SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — South Salt Lake Police officers pitched in to replace a woman's American flag after they say she used it to fight off a home intruder on Monday.According to the department, 42-year-old Justin Scott Smith attempted to break into the woman's home shortly before 9 a.m.Police say when the suspect entered the front yard through the gate and assaulted multiple people, the woman grabbed the flag pole with the flag attached to defend herself and her family members. They say she hit the suspect multiple times, breaking the pole in the process, and the victims retreated into the home.Smith kicked the door in and continued to assault everyone inside, police say, before officers arrived and took him into custody.He was arrested on suspicion of assault, aggravated assault, aggravated burglary, and criminal mischief.After the incident, police say the woman was worried about desecrating the flag because the pole had broken and the flag had hit the ground, so officers took up a collection to replace it. SAN DIEGO (AP) — A Navy SEAL committed murder during a deployment to Iraq and the proof is in his own words, his own photos and the testimony of his fellow troops, a military prosecutor told a jury Monday.Cmdr. Jeff Pietrzyk said in closing arguments of a court-martial that text messages by Special Operations Chief Edward Gallagher show he is guilty of fatally stabbing a wounded Islamic State prisoner on May 3, 2017.One message said: "I've got a cool story for you when I get back. I've got my knife skills on." Another text stated: "Good story behind this. Got him with my hunting knife."As he showed a photo of the dead prisoner with Gallagher holding up his head by the hair, the prosecutor said, "Those are his words."The prosecutor said one SEAL who changed his story and claimed to have killed the prisoner himself was lying to protect Gallagher."The government's evidence in this case is Chief Gallagher's words, Chief Gallagher's pictures, Chief Gallagher's SEALs," Pietrzyk said.The prosecutor said he wouldn't try to argue sympathy for the teenage prisoner, who had been wounded in an air strike."Before the air strike, he would have done anything in his power to kill an American," Pietrzyk said.But he said the prisoner was not a lawful target."We're not ISIS. Most were granted immunity to protect them from being prosecuted for acts they described on the stand.Seven SEALs said Gallagher unexpectedly stabbed the prisoner, moments after he and the other medics treated the 17-year-old boy. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 17-year-old from San Diego driving a vehicle police suspected to be stolen was shot by a detective during a traffic stop, Hemet police said Saturday.Detectives with the department's Crime Suppression Unit conducted the traffic stop at about 9:45 p.m. Wednesday in the 300 block of North San Jacinto Street, Lt. Jeff Davis said."Detectives transitioned to a high risk stop after a records check revealed the vehicle was reported stolen from the San Diego area. An officer involved shooting occurred during the stop," Davis said.The San Diego teen was hospitalized with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and later released to his guardian after receiving treatment, according to the news release.It was unclear what led to the shooting, and a call to Davis by a reporter Saturday morning was not returned.No officers were injured in the encounter, and an investigation was ongoing. 910
