SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A fire ripped through a Lakeside strip mall late Tuesday evening, but no injuries were reported.The fire broke out just after 11 p.m. in the 9700 block of Winter Gardens Blvd, near Woodside avenue.When firefighters arrived on scene the blaze spread to several businesses. Most of the damage was to the outside of the buildings but thick black smoke did get inside.By 11:30 p.m., the flames were knocked downNo injuries were immediately reported.The cause of the fire is under investigation. 518
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A family escaped from a fire that erupted in the garage of their Bay Ho home late Sunday night, but the family’s pet cat did not survive.At around 11:15 p.m., San Diego Fire-Rescue crews were called to a home in the 4800 block of Hidalgo Avenue in response to a fire at a two-story home.Firefighters knocked down the flames and kept the fire contained to the garage, but there was smoke damage throughout the home, SDFD spokesperson Monica Munoz said. A time of knockdown was not available.The family of five made it out of the home safely, but ABC 10News learned the family’s cat was overcome by smoke and later passed away.The American Red Cross was called to help the displaced residents arrange for temporary lodging. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A dog was rescued and reunited with his owner after getting into the water off Sunset Cliffs Sunday.The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department said the dog somehow got into the water but could not get back to its owner, prompting two lifeguards to spring into action.The lifeguards helped pull the dog onto a rescue board and brought him safely back to shore.The dog was not hurt.Lifeguards said the area is known to be dangerous for dogs. 460
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 25-year-old was arrested Wednesday following an officer-involved shooting sparked by a chase late Saturday night. According to police, Alfonso Flores, 25, was arrested and charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, one count of evading and one count of possession of a stolen vehicle. Officers tried to pull over a Ford F-150 that was reported stolen around 10:30 p.m. Saturday on the 1900 block of Dairy Mart Road.Police say the driver didn’t stop, instead driving into a cul-de-sac, making a u-turn and driving toward officers.RELATED: Chase leads to officer-involved shooting in Imperial Beach“Believing his partner was going to be run over, one officer fired his service weapon to defend the other officer,” police said in a news release.At some point during the pursuit, police say Flores threw a handgun out of the truck.RELATED: One shot, killed at Linda Vista recreation centerThe suspect eventually stopped on the 1200 block of Holly Avenue in Imperial Beach and ran away from the scene with a female passenger.Police say the officer who fired at the suspect is a three-year veteran of the department. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 25-year-old man has been taken into custody after his 53-year-old mother was found dead Monday evening in the College West neighborhood. Officers were called to the 4800 block of Collwood Boulevard around 4:40 p.m. Monday night after receiving reports of a deceased person inside a home. According to San Diego Police, family members tried to contact the 53-year-old woman who lived inside, but had not been able to contact her for several days.When officers entered the home, they found the woman dead.“Information provided by family members led to the 25 year-old son being located at an area hospital where he was receiving treatment for injuries he sustained to his hands,” police said.The man has been taken into custody and will be transported to headquarters for processing as a possible suspect, police said. 846
