With its rolling hills and canyons, it was used to create an Old West look for film and television shoots.Paramount Studios bought the 2,700 acre ranch in the golden era of Hollywood. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is opening a tuition-free preschool in Washington state.According to Bezos' philanthropic organization Day One Fund's website, the Bezos Academy will open on Oct. 19 in Des Moines, Washington.The Montessori-inspired preschool will serve children between the ages of three and five and will prioritize low-income families."In selecting communities for our preschools, we consider a wide range of data, including income levels, participation in free and reduced-cost meal programs, and gaps in access to licensed childcare providers," the organization stated. A woman was removed from an American Airlines flight, reportedly because of language on a mask she was wearing.Arlinda Johns shared a video of the incident on her social media accounts at the end of the July. The video begins with her covering her original mask with another one as the plane she is on drives toward the runway.Her original mask read “F*** 12”, and she was asked by an airline attendant to cover it up because of the language.The number “12” in this use is a reference to law enforcement. Johns told Local 10 News she is an “abolitionist” and supports efforts to “defund and abolish the police.”She says after she put on the new mask, the flight attendant returned and told Johns, “I better not see that other mask.” Johns says she responded, “I said, ‘Leave me alone, lady.’ She stood there, she said, ‘okay, I got you.’”“Everything she asked me to do, I did,” Johns said in her video.The video shows the plane driving back to the gate in Charlotte and Johns being asked to leave the plane.During the conversation with security, Johns repeatedly asks not to be called sir and asks for an explanation why she is being removed. (KGTV) - The West Fire Benefit Dinner and Live Auction held Saturday night in Alpine raised at least ,000 for the families who lost everything.A final tally of all the money raised could take up to a week; all of it going to the Alpine Foundation. The Community Resource Team (CRT) will distribute the funds based on merit. "We're a case management agency for long-term recovery and that's getting people from the point that they're at now, to the end when they're in safe and sanitary conditions and what we hope to do is fill in any gaps," Case Manager with CRT Dawn Hubert said.More than 400 people attended the standing room only event.The phoenix emblazoned on the center of the program a fitting metaphor for the families who have been working through ashes over the past month and a half.Colin Campbell is living the transition, telling 10News he was far from the flames when the West Fire swept through, but his heart was at the family ranch."He said you've got about a minute to escape the fire," Campbell said a Sheriff's Deputy was the one knocking on his parents' door, helping them and his brother escape the imminent danger."My dad literally left without his phone his wallet, anything," he said.The next day, he came to see the damage.
