SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Doctor saves man from jumping off Coronado Bay BridgeA Coronado doctor is sharing his story of talking down a bridge jumper in hopes others will see how someone can be helped from a desperate situation.Dr. Matthew Bruhin was driving back on the Coronado Bay Bridge with his wife when they noticed a man walking on the side of the bridge.RELATED: San Diego-based senator seeks stronger safety measures on Coronado BridgeBruhin says traffic was moving slow enough where he put on his hazard lights and began talking with the man.At one point, the doctor says the man asked Bruhin and his wife to look away.Bruhin is the CEO of a mental health firm and says he and his wife kept the conversation going with the man until the would-be jumper accepted their help.RELATED: Cycling, pedestrian 'tube' could be added to Coronado Bay BridgeThe psychotherapist says he is grateful that law enforcement let him continue talking to the man rather than bringing in a police negotiator.According to Bruhin, the man is a patient and no longer suicidal.A GoFundMe page has been set up for the man. 1139
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Fitness center chain 24 Hour Fitness is permanently closing hundreds of locations across the U.S., including four in San Diego County.The company shut down all of its facilities earlier this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and despite many states allowing for the reopening of gyms, 24 Hour Fitness “made the difficult decision to close” certain locations.Four San Diego County gyms will be shuttered:Chula Vista (320 Third Ave.)La Jolla (7680 Girard Ave.)San Marcos (641 S. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Home sales in San Diego County accelerated in July after declining on an annual basis for more than a year.New data from real-estate tracker CoreLogic shows 3,988 home sales in July, up 10.1 percent from July 2018. That marks the first time since April 2018 that home sales in the county did not decline on an annual basis, when seasonal factors do not impact the data. Meanwhile, the median price for a home sold in the county remained flat over the year at 0,000. In June, the average rate for a 30-year-fixed mortgage fell to 3.8 percent, according to Freddie Mac. That was the first time the rate was below 4 percent since Dec. 2017. It ticked down even lower in July to 3.77 percent. Mark Goldman, a loan officer with C2 Financial, said the lower rates likely helped people increase their buying power by 2 to 3 percent. "That same house is going to cost a little bit less, and help you afford more," he said. "A lot of times when market gives you something like lower rates, the market takes it back in the form of higher prices, and we’re not really seeing that."Goldman said there is less speculation in the market due to concerns that it has leveled off. Still, the median price of 0,000 is pricing people out of the county. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Home sales in San Diego are starting to see a dramatic decrease, according to a new report by CoreLogic.Year-to-year, home sales fell nearly 18 percent from September of 2017 to September of 2018. From August to September of this year, home sales fell nearly 22 percent. Since 1988, the average change in sales between August and September is only 9.8 percent.“The nearly 18 percent year-over-year drop in Southern California home sales this September was the largest for any month in almost eight years,” said Andrew LePage, a CoreLogic analyst.Also in September, sales of newly-built homes in Southern California were 46.6 percent below the September average since 1988.The drop in home sales is due to higher prices and rising mortgage rates, according to CoreLogic. Those factors are pricing out some would-be buyers and prompting others to wait and see what happens with the housing market.The median home price in San Diego County in September of 2018 was 5,000, up nearly eight percent from the same time last year, however, the median price fell by 1.4 percent from August to September of 2018.“Price growth is moderating amid slower sales and more listings in many markets,” LePage said. “This is welcome news for potential homebuyers, but many still face a daunting hurdle – the monthly mortgage payment, which has been pushed up sharply by rising mortgage rates.” 1405
