Looking back into history, the response by the ObamaBiden team to the H1N1 Swine Flu was considered a weak and pathetic one. Check out the polling, it’s really bad. The big difference is that they got a free pass from the Corrupt Fake News Media!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 18, 2020 306
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Nick Cannon has apologized for "hurtful and divisive" anti-Semitic comments that led ViacomCBS to cut ties with the TV host and producer. Cannon produced "Wild 'n Out," a comedy improv series for VH1, the ViacomCBS-owned cable channel. LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A federal judge in Los Angeles Thursday gave preliminary approval to a 5 million class-action settlement with women who claim they were sexually abused by former USC campus gynecologist Dr. George Tyndall."We are pleased that the court has granted preliminary approval," according to a joint statement from the plaintiffs' lawyers. "This settlement gives every single woman who saw Tyndall a choice in how they want to participate and hold USC accountable, while also forcing the school to change to ensure this doesn't happen again. The judge's order is an important step toward providing each survivor the relief and measure of closure she deserves, and we look forward to obtaining final approval."UC Interim President Wanda M. Austin issued a statement saying the preliminary approval of the settlement "is a very important step forward in healing our community. The settlement provides every affected individual the opportunity for a fair and respectful resolution, and it contains additional reforms that will build upon the impactful changes we have already made to strengthen our university."Tyndall and USC have been sued by hundreds of alleged victims, many of whom claim they were inappropriately fondled or photographed by Tyndall under the guise of gynecological exams. Many have also accused him of making sexually charged comments during the exams.U.S. District Judge Stephen V. Wilson set a January hearing to discuss finalizing the settlement, under which Tyndall's former patients each would receive minimum payments of ,500, in addition to being eligible to claim an award of between ,500 to 0,000, subject to review by a three-member panel.Beyond the payments, the settlement requires USC to institute a series of administrative changes, including the creation of a position for "an independent women's health advocate" to ensure complaints about improper sexual or racial conduct are investigated.USC also must conduct background checks on health center employees that delve into prior history of sexual harassment allegations, in addition to improving staff training and bolstering staffing so that female students have the option of seeing a female doctor. The class includes as many as 17,000 women seen by Tyndall at the USC Student Health Center between Aug. 14, 1989, and June 21, 2016, whose treatment included an examination of their breast or genital areas by the physician. 2441
LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Monday is Kobe Bryant Day in Los Angeles and Orange County, honoring the late Los Angeles Lakers star, and it'll be highlighted by a move to rename a downtown stretch of Figueroa Street outside Staples Center in recognition of his legacy."This is a gift to the city of Los Angeles and to all the Kobe Bryant fans around the world," City Councilman Curren Price said in a statement announcing a proposal to rename the street. "L.A. streets will rise in honor of the 'King of L.A.'"Price and Councilman Herb Wesson plan to introduce a motion Tuesday calling for the stretch of Figueroa between Olympic and Martin Luther King Jr. boulevards to be named "Kobe Bryant Boulevard." That stretch covers the portion of the street from roughly Staples Center to Exposition Park.A 2016 Los Angeles City Council resolution declared Aug. 24 as Kobe Bryant Day in perpetuity, on the date of the jersey numbers he wore with the team. Bryant wore the No. 8 his first 10 seasons and 24 for the final 10.City Councilman Jose Huizar, who introduced the resolution, said Bryant should be admired not just because he is "unbelievably talented," but because he "has taught all of us in Los Angeles that this city has a fighting spirit.""It doesn't matter how down you are," Huizar said. "It doesn't matter what hardships you face. You keep showing up, you keeping practicing, you keep going and yes you keep winning and here in L.A."The Orange County Board of Supervisors voted Aug. 11 to declare Aug. 24 as Kobe Bryant Day. Bryant was a resident of Newport Beach.Board of Supervisors Chairwoman Michelle Steel, who introduced the motion, called Bryant a "treasured member of our community," who "inspired so many men and women to pursue their dreams and never give up."On Sunday, the Los Angeles Dodgers honored the memories of Kobe and Gianna Bryant on what would have been his 42nd birthday.During ceremonies before the 11-3 victory over the Colorado Rockies, Dodger players donned Kobe Bryant's Nos. 8 and 24 jerseys and the team played a tribute video narrated by retired broadcaster Vin Scully."Kobe demonstrated that he was a man of many talents," Scully said. "He was a champion, a mentor, a creative force, an advocate."Kobe was also a husband and a father to four wonderful girls. The warrior that we knew as `The Black Mamba' was a sweetheart to his wife Vanessa and a proud `Girl Dad' to Natalia, Bianka, Capri and his daughter known as 'the Mambacita,' Gianna."Gigi was worthy of her dad's nickname. She shared his passion for basketball and so much more. He in turn wanted her to have every opportunity to succeed, and he believed that the women's game deserved as much respect and support as the men received."Kobe Bryant's No. 24 and Gianna's youth basketball No. 2 were painted on the pitcher's mound.Bryant played his entire 20-season career with the Lakers, helping them win five NBA championships, and was chosen as the NBA Finals MVP for both of the two most recent championships. The 6-foot-6-inch Bryant, a guard for most of his career but listed as a forward-guard in his final season, scored 33,643 points, the fourth-most in league history, behind Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (38,387), Karl Malone (36,928) and LeBron James (34,241).James passed Bryant on the all-time list Jan. 25, one day before Kobe and Gianna Bryant and seven others were killed in a Jan. 26 helicopter crash in Calabasas. 3416
Look up this week to get a glimpse of Mars, it’s making a “close approach” of Earth right now.On October 13, the Earth is directly in the middle of the sun and Mars. Mars is traveling close to the earth right now, as it does every two years according to its orbit around the sun.Mars will be visible from dusk until dawn in the southern sky. Being “close” is relative, at its closest, Mars will still be 33.9 million miles away, according to NASA. Earth and Mars have elliptical, or egg-shaped, paths around the sun; meaning the distance between the two planets widens and narrows as they orbit. However, even being millions of miles away, the “close approach,” as NASA calls it, will allow an opportunity to see Mars without a telescope. Mars was at its brightest on October 6, and is slowly getting farther away.Mars will appear very bright in the sky during this time as it’s close to earth. NASA says it is more like the size of a star than the moon, a very bright star.If clouds or other distractions block the view of Mars this week, there will be another chance to see the red planet in December 2022. At that time, Mars will get within 38 million miles of earth. 1177
