SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 26-year-old motorcyclist was killed Saturday after losing control of his bike, hitting the center median curb and continuing across the lanes of Scripps Poway Parkway in the Miramar Ranch area, San Diego police said.The crash took place on the Scripps Poway Parkway, near 11800 Spruce Run Dr., at 1 a.m., SDPD Officer J. Buttle said.The motorcyclist riding a 2017 Yamaha was moving at a high rate of speed, and failed to negotiate the rightward bend in the road, Buttle said. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A City Council committee Wednesday unanimously directed the City Attorney's office to draft an emergency declaration over a lack of shelter space, which has exacerbated a deadly outbreak of hepatitis A among San Diego's homeless population.A declaration regarding shelters is already in place. SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – An officer with the Salt Lake City Police Department has been suspended after being accused of unnecessarily ordering a K-9 to attack a man who listened to commands from police.Additionally, Mayor Erin Mendenhall announced that the department is also suspending its use of K-9s to engage with suspects until the policies and practices of the program can be reviewed.Body camera footage from April 20 shows Jeffery Ryans getting attacked by a police K-9, even though Ryans was on his knees and had his hands in the air.The footage shows K-9 Tuco biting and tearing at Ryans' leg as another officer sat on top of Ryans and placed him in handcuffs.Mayor Mendenhall said she was disturbed by the content of the footage and concerned that the incident wasn't brought to the attention of senior police leadership before The Salt Lake Tribune published the video online Tuesday, nearly four months after the incident."We will conduct a thorough review of the breakdown in communication to ensure that it does not happen again. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 16-year-old girl and 11 women were recovered during a two-day human trafficking operation in San Diego County that also resulted in the arrests of five men and a woman on a variety of charges, authorities announced."Operation Home for the Holidays" was conducted Monday and Tuesday and aimed at recovering juvenile victims and involved detectives from the San Diego County Sheriff's Department working undercover as sex buyers looking for online ads of suspected juveniles, according to a statement from the department.Child Welfare Services and a juvenile advocate assisted with the recovery of the teenager and the women were offered resources, the statement said.Deputies arrested five men for suspected prostitution-related violations, including one who was in possession of a gun at the time of his arrest. A woman was arrested for trafficking of a minor, the department said. It was unclear if the minor recovered was the one being trafficked by the woman."I'm proud of the great work being done by the San Diego County Human Trafficking Task Force," Sheriff Bill Gore said.
