The La Jolla restaurant was hailed by reviewers as having the "best steak burritos ever tasted" and simply "taco nirvana.""We are so thrilled by this news and grateful," The Taco Stand co-owner Julian Hakim told 10News. "The Taco Stand was built out of a passion for food, making great tacos and burritos. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man reportedly attacked by four teenagers near Petco Park died Monday morning, family members tell 10News. 56-year-old Edward Leon Starland died several weeks after being attacked and beaten on November 18 around 2 p.m. Several teenagers, including 19-year-old Dominick Wells and three juvenile females ages 14, 15 and 17 were all taken into custody on felony battery charges. RELATED: Arrests made in attack near Petco Park that left man with serious injuriesStarland was found unresponsive after witnesses say he was involved with an argument with the group before being thrown to the ground and attacked. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A local hardware store is hoping to find the family of a mysterious model the store used for an ad when it first opened its doors in the late 1800s.The woman, known as the “Hardware Lady,” modeled hardware items on her dress for one of San Diego Hardware’s first advertisements 125 years ago.The company is hoping to identify the mystery model in time for their December 8 anniversary party. The store also hopes to honor the model and her family.The model’s dress was styled with keys, locks and chains and a small wood burning stove. The woman’s crown was made of spoons, clothespins and other hardware from the store.The store was founded in 1892 and now operates in Kearny Mesa and online. 721
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A hearing that will decide where to place the so-called “bolder than most” rapist is set to take place in October.According to documents sent to 10News, the Department of State Hospitals proposed that Alvin Quarles live at 43050 Desert Ranch Road in Jacumba Hot Springs.Quarles was convicted and sentenced to 50 years in prison in 1989 after being convicted of attacking and raping four women.RELATED: Alvin Quarles, 'Bolder than Most' rapist, to be released from prisonIn 2013, Quarles became eligible for parole but was instead transferred to a state hospital because one of his victims objected.He earned his nickname because he made his victim’s male partners watch or participate in the sex crimes.“I don’t believe he’s suitable for release at this time,” Dr. Cecilia Groman, who created a report on Quarles’ rehabilitation, testified at a release hearing.RELATED: 'Bolder than most' rapist up for conditional releaseBefore the placement is finalized, the public is able to comment on the proposed location through September 5. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A partnership with the United Way and the San Diego and Imperial Counties Labor Council pulled off a donation drive-through at SDCCU Stadium Tuesday morning that served 500 families in need.Cars holding vouchers from the various unions represented by the council lined up and proceeded through the assembly line, loading up with food and toys donated by their fellow workers.Every year, thousands of union workers make a monthly donation from their paychecks to assist their fellow working families and community members in need. This year's recipients included fire victims and other families identified by several non-profit partners, according to representatives with the Labor Council."You've got electricians and teachers out here helping school bus drivers and janitors and security guards, those who have fallen on hard times and need a little extra help," says Keith Maddox with the Labor Council.Holding two events, one in San Diego and the other in Imperial County, 650 families total were served by the annual donation drive.Feeding San Diego helps procure the food for the drive, according to Unions United/United Way of San Diego County President and CEO Nancy Sasaki. 1209
