BEIJING, Oct. 13 (Xinhuanet) -- Scientists have decoded the genome of Black Death which caused one of the worst plagues in human history.The finding was published Wednesday in the scientific journal Nature.A team of German, Canadian and American scientists collected the bacteria's DNA from ancient plague victims' teeth and bones, which were excavated from the burial ground in London.With a careful NDA comparison between the ancient bacteria and the modern strains, scientists found the direct variant of the medieval bacteria still exist today.Black Death's descendants kill around 2,000 people a year, mostly in the developing world, the scientist said."This will provide us with direct insights into the evolution of human pathogens and historical pandemics," said Johannes Krause Of Germany's University of Tubingen, who worked on the study.Black Death, the fatal plague of medieval Europe, wiped out some 30 million people -- about 50 percent of the population on the continent, within just five years, between 1347 and 1351.

Instead, it can go through swings in a few years, according to a British study reported online in Nature.Teenagers' IQ can rise or fall 20 points over time, researchers from Wellcome Trust Centre for Neuroimaging of Kings College, showed in their study.IQ (short for "intelligent quotient") is an gauge of mental capability measured through a series of standardized tests of language skill, spatial ability, arithmetic, memory and reasoning.To get the findings, Cathy Price, senior researcher of the study, and her colleagues tested 33 British teenagers between the ages of 12 to 16 in 2004, who had average IQ scores around 100. Then the teenagers were retested four years later.The researchers found the volunteers' IQ scores went up and down over the four years, with some teenager's scores rising by as many as 20 points, and others' dropping by the same points."That is quite astounding," cheered psychologist Robert Plomin from the same university but not involved in the study. Dr. Price and her colleagues don't know the causes of such fluctuations in the scores they tested, but speculate that learning experiences might account the changes, reported by the Wall Street Journal Today. YANGON, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar surgeons have successfully separated the fifth conjoined twin baby girls, official media reported Thursday.The surgical operation by Dr. Htoo Han and his assistants was performed on the two-year-and-one-month-old conjoined twins named Ma Ingyin Khaing and Ma Ingyin Hlaing in the Children's Hospital in Yangon Wednesday, according to the New Light of Myanmar daily.The separated twins, who are under extensive care in the hospital, are from Kawtin village in Laungton township in southern Tanintharyi region.Myanmar surgeons had carried out four successful similar surgical operations on twins in the past over two decades.The fourth twins, who are also baby girls named So Pyay Lin and So Pyay Win with their chests joined together, were successfully separated in October 2009.
