About 60 percent of restaurants that had to close during the pandemic are now permanently closed, according to review site Yelp.Across industries, Yelp reports that 132,580 businesses that were listed as “open” on March 1 are now marked “closed”, and roughly 55 percent of those closures are permanent. Those percentages translate to 72,842 businesses permanently closed as of July 10 that were open in March, and more than 15,700 of those are restaurants.Las Vegas is suffering from the highest rate of closed businesses, with 861 that are now permanently closed. Las Vegas has seen a huge decrease in tourism, and according to Yelp, this accounts for the spike in closures. The rate of permanent closures has increased since April as the coronavirus pandemic spreads and businesses of all kinds are forced to close or adjust how they interact with customers, sometimes resulting in fewer sales. Yelp reports that the number of total closures, though, has fluctuated as states reopen and close down again based on outbreaks. However, some businesses are seeing far fewer permanent closures. These include professional services like lawyers, accountants, web design and tutors or educators. Health services like physicians, mental health services, and health coaches are also seeing fewer permanent closures during the pandemic.“With nearly every state (and even county) taking a tailored approach to reopening local economies we expect these shifts in consumer interest and business closures to continue to move at an unpredictable pace,” the report stated. As businesses opened up in June, Yelp reports that people are searching for alcohol-related experiences, with an increase in searches for wineries (up 51 percent since May), cideries (up 39 percent) and breweries (up 24 percent). Searches for outdoors activities has also increased since May, like ziplining (up 44%) and ATV rentals (up 37%). 1906

After repeated calls for him to do so, Mark Zuckerberg has decided he will testify before Congress.Facebook sources tell CNNMoney the 33-year-old CEO has come to terms with the fact that he will have to testify before Congress within a matter of weeks, and Facebook is currently planning the strategy for his testimony. The pressure from lawmakers, the media and the public has become too intense to justify anything less. The Facebook sources believe Zuckerberg's willingness to testify will also put pressure on Google CEO Sundar Pichai and Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey to do the same. Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley has officially invited all three CEOs to a hearing on data privacy on April 10. 709

Actor Stoney Westmoreland has been dropped from his recurring role on the Disney Channel show "Andi Mack" after being arrested by police in Salt Lake City, according to a Disney Channel statement.A probable cause affidavit states Westmoreland, 48, used a dating app to chat with someone he believed to be a 13-year-old boy. The affidavit goes on to state the actor used the app to send explicit pictures and to arrange a meeting for sex. When Westmoreland arrived at the arranged spot, he was arrested by Salt Lake City Police and members of the FBI Child Exploitation Task Force. Salt Lake City Police records show Westmoreland was arrested last week for attempting to entice, seduce or lure a minor by internet or text and is facing four counts of dealing in materials harmful to minors."Given the nature of the charges and our responsibility for the welfare of employed minors, we have released him from his recurring role and he will not be returning to work on the series which wraps production on its third season next week," said the Disney Channel statement.CNN was unable to reach Westmoreland for comment Sunday or determine whether he has retained an attorney.Westmoreland had appeared in 38 episodes of "Andi Mack" as Ham Mack, the main character's grandfather. Actress Tamera Mowry-Housley was active on social media on Thursday looking for help locating her and husband's niece Alaina Housley who was presumably at the California bar where a gunman killed 12 before taking his own life. Late Thursday morning, the couple confirmed to NBC News that Alaina Housley was among the 12 killed. "Our hearts are broken. We just learned that our niece Alaina was one of the victims of last night’s shooting at Borderline bar in Thousand Oaks," the couple said in a joint statement to NBC. "Alaina was an incredible young woman with so much life ahead of her and we are devastated that her life was cut short in this manner. We thank everyone for your prayers and ask for privacy at this time."Mowry-Housley's social media thread hours after the late-night shooting shows the frantic nature of trying to gather information of loved ones after mass shootings. The shooting took place before midnight late Wednesday night, and Mowry-Housley's Instagram post came more than nine hours later. Mowry-Housley's sister Tia Mowry was also active on social media trying to gather information. "Alaina Housely we are praying," Tia Mowry wrote in Instagram Thursday morning. "We love u! If you know anything or any information please let us know. We love you! #borderline"Earlier on Thursday morning, Alaina Housley's roommate had posted a plea on Twitter trying to find information on her roommate. Mowry-Housley responded to her niece's roommate and went to Twitter looking for any information she could gather on her niece. Mowry-Housley's husband Adam Housley then went to a California hospital in search of their niece. The Los Angeles Times reported that he was turned away by guards at the hospital. “My gut is saying she’s inside the bar, dead. I’m hoping I’m wrong,” he told the LA Times. He added that his niece's Apple Watch and iPhone locators were tracked to the bar's dance floor. The Los Angeles Times reported that Alaina Housley was 18 years old and a freshman at Pepperdine University. Pepperdine confirmed that 16 of its students were at the bar at the time of the shooting, and there was one unaccounted for as of late Wednesday morning.  2335
