SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - More than a hundred family and friends gathered for a memorial service Friday morning at St. Therese Catholic Church in Del Cerro, to remember Julia Jacobson.The retired U.S. Army Captain disappeared over Labor Day weekend and is believed to have been murdered, the priest talking of the "sting of death" and "death so sinful."Julia's car was discovered abandoned near her home in University Heights but there's been no sign of her or her dog, Boogie, despite many searches - which are ongoing.RELATED: Ex-husband of missing Army veteran arrested on suspicion of murderJulia was divorced. It wasn't a friendly parting and the ex-husband, Dalen Ware, was arrested in Phoenix last month; charged with her murder and currently awaiting trial.Friday, though, a tearful farewell for a lost friend.Jamie Mann described her as a battle buddy during the Iraq war."There isn't a day goes by I don't think of that girl and how she made me a better leader; just a better woman; and she loved everybody, touched so many people hearts, and she'll never be forgotten," Mann said.RELATED: Scholarship set up in memory of missing Army veteran Julia JacobsonJulia's brother, Jon, said one of his biggest honors was to pin Julia's lieutenant's bars on her."I was very proud of her; her service in Iraq, Serbia a little while. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Police have identified the man who died in custody after being arrested in Little Italy earlier this month.Vito Vitale, also known as Todd James Vitale, 39, died at the hospital after being taken into custody.Witnesses say Vitale was running in and out of traffic naked near the 600 block of West Grape Street around 11 p.m. Friday yelling for help.People who witnessed the events also told police that the man appeared to be under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.RELATED: Police investigate death of man arrested in Little ItalyAfter placing Vitale into handcuffs, several witnesses had to help officers restrain him. Police provided medical aid to Vitale until paramedics arrived.Police also identified the officers involved in the incident as Greg Pilkington, a 10-year veteran of the department, Robert Nelson, a three-year veteran and Carlos Diaz, a one-year veteran. 915

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Postal workers across San Diego will have an extra pickup this Saturday - they're working to end hunger in San Diego. The San Diego Food Bank and the National Association of Letter Carriers are asking San Diegans to participate in the annual Stamp Out Hunger event by setting out bags of nonperishable food items next to their mailboxes. The letter carriers will pick up the donations on their route and deliver them to the Food Bank's warehouse. “After the holiday season, food donations drop dramatically, and this one-day food drive helps us restock our shelves ahead of the summer months when we see increased in demand from children on summer vacation who stop receiving free school meals and face hunger at home,” said San Diego Food Bank President & CEO, Jim Floros.Last year, 244,489 pounds of food was collected from homes in San Diego County alone for the San Diego Food Bank and our North County Food Bank chapter.The food was distributed through the Food Bank’s network of 400 nonprofit partner agenciesMost needed items:  1096

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Police are investigating the death of a child at a Tierrasanta home Tuesday.San Diego Police responded to the 3100 Block of Minuteman St. just before 11 a.m. to reports of a four-month-old child not breathing. When paramedics arrived, they began CPR on the infant.First responders were not able to revive the child.Police do not suspect the death to be criminal in nature at this point. However, police said since they are still not sure what led to the baby's death, they are investigating.The child died in a home in a military housing neighborhood.  624
