Ethan Melzer, a 22-year-old US Army private, has been indicted for allegedly plotting a “mass casualty” attack on his Army unit.In its announcement of the indictment, the Department of Justice said that Melzer was sending sensitive military information to members of a neo-Nazi group to help facilitate the attack.Melzer has been charged with conspiring and attempting to murder U.S. nationals, conspiring and attempting to murder military service members, providing and attempting to provide material support to terrorists, and conspiring to murder and maim in a foreign country.The DOJ said that the FBI thwarted the attack in May 2020 before arresting Melzer on June 10.The DOJ said that Melzer was a member of O9A, a group that officials say has participated in acts of violence.Melzer was informed of his unit’s deployment in April 2020. The DOJ said that Melzer then used an encrypted message application to send messages to O9A. The group allegedly planned a “jihadi attack” during the unit’s deployment.“As alleged, Ethan Melzer, a private in the U.S. Army, was the enemy within,” Acting U.S. Attorney Audrey Strauss said. “Melzer allegedly attempted to orchestrate a murderous ambush on his own unit by unlawfully revealing its location, strength, and armaments to a neo-Nazi, anarchist, white supremacist group. Melzer allegedly provided this potentially deadly information intending that it be conveyed to jihadist terrorists. As alleged, Melzer was motivated by racism and hatred as he attempted to carry out this ultimate act of betrayal.”Melzer could face life in prison if convicted on the counts. 1620

(KGTV) - Neighbors in Encinitas are warning people about the dangers of the Sago Palm after two dogs on the same street passed away from sago poisoning.Ronnie Steinau says her dog, Luna, died within 24 hours of eating some seeds from a Sago Palm."She was the happiest, tail wagging, loved everyone and 'she's the kind of dog that everyone loved because she was so sweet," Steinau says. "We had her for about a year. We miss her."After posting about Luna on social media groups, Steinau learned a neighbor had a similar experience."We had no idea there was something so deadly all around us," says Alissa Dalaut.Dalaut says her dog Saber ate some sago palm seeds in December and died a few days afterward, despite aggressive treatment from her vet."We felt horrible, and we wished we would have known how toxic and how fatal and how dangerous these plants are," says Dalaut.According to PetMD.com, the sago palm contains a toxin called Cycasin. It can cause severe liver damage. Other symptoms of sago poisoning include:VomitingBlood in fecesBloody diarrheaIcterus (yellow coloration of skin and gums)Increased thirstIncreased urineBruisingBleeding easily (coagulopathy, DIC)Neurological signs such as depression, circling, paralysis, seizures, comaDeathThe toxin is found in the sago roots, seeds and leaves. Veterinarians say you should seek medical attention immediately if you suspect your pet has eaten it. Children can also get sick from eating it.Dalaut had 12 sago palms in her house. She has since had them all removed. Steinau also had a sago palm removed from her backyard and has plans to cut down another on her porch.Now the two women are warning others of the dangers in their neighborhood."If you have them in your yard and you have children or pets, you're asking for trouble," says Steinau.Steinau would also like nurseries to do a better job of telling people about the dangers associated with sago palms and other trees when they're sold. She'd like to see a warning label put on all plants that could be harmful. 2058

The FCC typically has three commissioners of the majority party and two in the minority party. It currently has two Democratic commissioners, Jessica Rosenworcel and Geoffrey Starks, one of whom Biden could choose to elevate to chairman or choose someone from outside the agency.Pai and another Republican commissioner, Michael O’Rielly, are leaving the agency. O’Rielly is leaving because the White House pulled his nomination after he said he wasn’t sure the agency had authority on Section 230. Congress is weighing the nomination of another Republican, Nathan Simington.Pai has presided over a contentious FCC. He undid net neutrality rules that barred internet service providers like Comcast and AT&T from favoring some types of online traffic over others in 2017 and championed other deregulatory efforts. The incoming FCC is likely to try to reinstate net neutrality rules and focus on getting internet service to more Americans.They will likely not act on a recent directive from the Trump administration to look at Section 230 in an effort to regulate social media companies like Facebook and Twitter. Section 230 shields internet companies from lawsuits about posts by users. The Trump administration has gone after the law, alleging with no evidence that social networks censor conservatives.
