SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Traffic was blocked Wednesday near the San Diego Superior Court Central Courthouse due to a hazmat investigation. The San Diego Sheriff’s Department confirmed the substance was found in the building at 1100 Union St. about 5 p.m. A court employee said the substance was a white powder found on the 10th floor.Preliminary information from the scene indicates the situation was linked to a letter inside the courthouse, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue. By 6:30 p.m., crews determined the powder was harmless. 537

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- While face masks are required for everyone at San Diego International Airport, Southwest Airlines is taking it a step further.The airline said they are now requiring all passengers to don a face mask for the safety of crew members and other travelers.Southwest’s policy, which took effect Monday, has one exception -- children under the age of 2 will not have to wear a face covering.In a statement, Southwest said, in part: “If a customer is unable to wear a face covering or mask for any reason, Southwest regrets that will be unable to transport the individual. In those cases, Southwest hopes the customer will allow them to welcome them onboard in the future, if public health guidance, or other safety related circumstances regarding face coverings changes.”Before this, Southwest had already stepped up the cleaning and disinfecting of their planes. The airline is also booking a limited number of people on board.They’re also using HEPA air filters to circulate air through the cabin on every flight. Southwest said these specialized air filters are similar to the technology found in hospitals.On Wednesday, American Airlines will join Southwest and implement the same face covering requirement. 1232

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- A mother from Sacramento is back in San Diego to search for her missing son, a San Diego State graduate who was living in Pacific Beach.Wesley Billingsly was last heard from on June 12, 2018. He was supposed to meet friends for dinner in Pacific Beach, but never showed up.Since then, there has been no sign of him.He is 5’8”, 130 pounds with hazel eyes and brown hair. He has several tattoos.Christel Billingsly, Wesley’s mother, has spent her days posting fliers, reaching out to people on social media, and keeping up with the San Diego Police missing person’s investigation into her son’s disappearance.“He was here actively driving these streets, going to that Vons to get gas,” she said while standing in a Vons parking lot on Garnet Avenue. “And then he just disappears?”She is offering a ,000 reward to anyone who helps bring her son home.“I know somebody that's reading these posters knows where my son is,” she said. “They need to speak up and tell me where he is because this is enough, it's enough.”Back in August, Christel Billingsley flew to San Diego from Sacramento and spent her son's 25th birthday searching for him.Police located his vehicle in the South Bay but that has been the only trace of him. After that Christel Billingsly made her way to Mexico to search for him.“I went and met with the police in Mexico, I had a translator with me,” she said. “I went and filed a missing report,” she also checked morgues and jails.She said her son had earned a degree in business administration and marketing from SDSU. He moved back home to Sacramento briefly to work and save enough money to return to San Diego.Once he returned, he was staying with different friends at homes in Pacific Beach as he looked for jobs.Christel pays her son’s cellphone bill and said the phone stopped showing any activity once he disappeared. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Veterans Day will mark the last "fee-free" day of the year for visitors at Cabrillo National Monument.On Nov. 11, visitors will not be charged admission to visit the San Diego landmark as part of the National Park Service promotion — offered on several days throughout the year.Those who visit the monument at the tip of Point Loma will take in tremendous views of the San Diego skyline, Coronado, and the bay.RELATED: Bill pushes to add San Diego's Chicano Park to National Park SystemWhile there, living history re-enactors will walk visitors back in time to the Age of Exploration.
