SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency announced today a person at Patrick Henry High School was recently diagnosed with tuberculosis and may have exposed students and staff.The dates of exposure are from August 26, 2019, to March 13, 2020. The agency is working with San Diego Unified School District officials to notify those who were potentially exposed and provide TB testing.Patrick Henry High School is currently participating in social distancing protocols and onsite TB screening will not be available at the school. Identified students who may have been exposed to TB can get tested with their primary care provider. Students who do not have a medical provider may contact agency staff to arrange for free testing by appointment only.Identified staff will be provided testing by the San Diego Unified School District.Tuberculosis is transmitted from person to person through indoor air during prolonged contact with an infectious person. Most people who are exposed do not become infected.``Testing is recommended for everyone who was determined to have been exposed to make sure they are not infected, since initial infection typically has no symptoms,'' said Dr. Wilma Wooten, county public health officer. ``Early diagnosis is important so that people can get treatment and prevent them from developing the infectious form of the disease.''Symptoms of infectious tuberculosis include persistent cough, fever, night sweats and unexplained weight loss. People with symptoms of TB, or who are immune-compromised and may not show symptoms, should consult their medical provider to be evaluated for the bacteria. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Poll watchers will be permitted to observe election activities at polling stations countywide on Nov. 3, though COVID-19 related restrictions will limit the number of people allowed inside polling places.Social distancing requirements mean only about one to two observers might be rotated in and out of the polling places at any given time this year, Assistant Registrar of Voters Cynthia Paes said Thursday.The number of polling places in San Diego County has been reduced from 1,548 in March to 235 larger polling places that will be open for four days and are each expected to be staffed by about 15 county employees, Paes said.The role of poll watchers has garnered increased attention as part of the national discussion on voter fraud and voter intimidation sparked most recently by President Donald Trump's call at Tuesday's presidential debate for his supporters to monitor polling places on Election Day.Trump, who has frequently raised the specter of voter fraud and publicly expressed doubts over the security of mail-in voting, urged supporters Tuesday to "go into the polls and watch very carefully because that's what has to happen."Tony Krvaric, chair of the San Diego County Republican Party, said recruiting poll watchers is a typical practice, intended to ensure votes are cast and note any irregularities in the voting process."We always recruit for poll watchers and have done so for as long as I can remember," Krvaric told City News Service."Poll watchers help make sure Republicans who haven't voted are contacted and reminded to do so and keep an eye out for any irregularities. Kamala Harris questioned U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Kevin McAleenan on the economic fallout of last month's nearly six-hour closure of the San Ysidro Port of Entry during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing Tuesday in Washington, D.C. CBP fully closed the San Ysidro Port of Entry to vehicles from 11:30 a.m. to around 5 p.m. Nov 25 after a group of asylum-seeking members of the migrant caravans in Tijuana attempted to cross the border and illegally enter the U.S. CBP agents used tear gas and pepper ball guns to quell the crowds. According to Harris' office, businesses in the city of San Ysidro lost .3 million due to the closure. Roughly 5 billion in annual gross regional product in San Diego and Imperial counties is reliant on interborder commerce. ``You can appreciate that there's a lot of concern in that part of our state from business owners, especially when the president has threatened to `permanently close the border,' that there would be real economic harm to that region,'' Harris said. According to McAleenan, the agency remains in daily contact with the San Diego Association of Governments and the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce regarding the closure and its economic effects. The CBP is also conducting a review of the incident, which McAleenan said happens after every use of force. ``I personally wrote into our operational plan the need to maximize legitimate trade and travel while we made sure that any caravan arrival would be managed in a safe way, so I delegated that authority to the lead field coordinator in San Diego area,'' McAleenan said. ``They actually opened it up a little bit before they felt that we had full resolution, because they thought it was a secure enough situation. And they worked very hard to catch up on the traffic backlogs.'' Harris also requested data from the CBP on how many migrants the agency has referred for prosecution for trafficking allegations. Federal officials, including Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, have suggested that a significant number of migrants pose as so-called ``fraudulent families'' in order to gain asylum. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The California Film Commission Wednesday announced two additional TV series will relocate to the state to take advantage of incentives provided by the Film and Television Tax Credit Program, including one that will shoot in the San Diego area.The Amazon Prime war crime drama "Hunters" and the Disney+ historical drama "The Right Stuff" will move to California for their second seasons of production, commission officials said.Starting in March 2021, all 88 planned filming days for "The Right Stuff" are set to occur in the San Diego area. Such production helps fulfill the tax credit program's goal of bringing jobs and spending to regions beyond the Los Angeles 30-mile studio zone."We are thrilled to welcome ‘The Right Stuff’ to the San Diego region. The California Film & TV Tax Credit Program has been a critical incentive in attracting productions to San Diego," said Brandy Shimabukuro, film liaison for the City of San Diego’s Film Office. "Productions like these help bolster our local economy and civic pride, while also creating and sustaining jobs in the film industry."Locations for shooting have yet to be determined.The Disney+ series follows the story of the early days of the U.S. space program as it competed to be the first to put man in space. The series is based on the bestselling book by Tom Wolfe.California's tax credit program has enticed a total of 22 TV series to relocate from other states and nations, according to the commission.This round of applications for tax credits for TV projects was held Sept. 29 to Oct. 7. Due to the program's success with ongoing TV projects, the allocation round was open only to newly relocating series and recurring series accepted during previous rounds, the commission stated.For their first seasons in California, "Hunters" and "The Right Stuff" are on track to generate a combined 5 million in below-the-line wages and other qualified expenditures, film commission officials said.Like all film and TV tax credit projects, their overall spending will be significantly greater with the inclusion of above-the-line wages and other expenditures that do not qualify for incentives under California's targeted tax credit program, commission officials said."It's great to emerge from the pandemic shutdown with news that two more successful TV series are relocating to California," said Colleen Bell, the commission's executive director. "Such projects are a primary target for our tax credit program because they bring high-quality jobs and significant in-state spending."Based on information provided with their tax credit applications, the two projects will employ an estimated 440 cast members, 374 crew members and 6,056 background actors/stand-ins over a combined 195 filming days in California.They will also generate significant post-production jobs and revenue for the state's visual effects artists, sound editors, sound mixers, musicians and other workers/vendors as part of their eight-episode seasons, the commission said."We're thrilled to see this round of tax credits generate so much out- of-zone filming because it brings direct economic benefit to regions across the state," Bell said. "Based on their qualified spending and out-of-zone production, the two relocating series announced today will receive reservations for an estimated .5 million in tax credit allocation."The current list of projects eligible for tax credits is subject to change, as projects may withdraw and their reservation of tax credits is reassigned or rolled over into the pool of funds for the next TV allocation period.The state's next tax credit application period for TV projects will take place March 15-22. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The ride-hailing company Lyft announced an expansion Wednesday of its pilot program at Camp Pendleton that streamlines access to the U.S. Marine Corps base for military members, their families and civilians who work at the military installation.Lyft launched the pilot program in collaboration with Marine Corps Community Services last year to make it easier for people living on the base to book a ride with a company like Lyft or Uber, which previously required security clearance to enter the base. The ``Base Mode'' feature is now integrated into the app, automatically matching base residents with eligible drivers.In addition, a new state law allows active-duty military members and their families to drive for companies like Uber or Lyft in California with a valid driver's license from any U.S. state. According to the company, military veterans make up roughly 13% of Lyft drivers in San Diego County and more than 1,000 drivers throughout the county have access to the base.``It can be costly or prohibited for military personnel to bring cars from their home state, so they rely heavily on services like Lyft to get around,'' said Lyft driver Victor Gonzalez, a member of Lyft San Diego's Driver Advisory Council.As part of the expansion, the company said it will also share revenue generated by the pilot project with the MCCS, which will use the funds to support Marine Corps recreation programs.``Marine Corps Community Services and Lyft continue to facilitate efficient and economical transportation options for the residents of Marine Corps base Camp Pendleton with this pilot program,'' Camp Pendleton spokesman Capt.
