States and districts across the country are unveiling their plans for the nation’s 56 million school children to return back to school. It’s a stressful time for parents and teachers, as well as students. Experts say it’s important to recognize the signs your child may not be ready to go back.“I really want to see friends and see teachers, and like, being actually inside the classroom,” said 14-year-old sophomore Amina Ahmad.Still, there is an uneasiness about whether a return to the classroom would lead to an outbreak.“Some people really are kind of worried about how many students are actually going back and how many people are going to be there,” said Ahmad.Politicians, school administrators, and parents are all weighing the potential risks of returning to the classroom. As novel coronavirus cases surge across the country, experts say the psychological toll on children needs to be addressed.“One of the things that we're seeing a lot is that after being away from that routine for a long time, it is normal for families and for youth to be concerned about ‘how is this going to be?’” said Dr. Tali Raviv, a child clinical psychologist at the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago who specializes in student mental and health resilience. The American Association of Pediatrics says the benefits of in-person learning outweigh the risks and “…strongly advocates that all policy considerations for the coming school year should start with a goal of having students physically present in school.”But mental health experts say it’s important to understand how each child feels about going back.“Because it's a very different situation if a child is worried, ‘I'm not going to have my best friend with me in my little pod’ than if they're saying ‘I'm worried I'm going to get sick and die’ or ‘you're going to get sick and die,’” explained Dr. Raviv.Dr. Raviv says signs that your student is anxious about returning to school include:Any significant changes in sleep, falling asleep, staying asleep, not wanting to sleep alone or having nightmaresChanges in appetite or a lack of appetiteHeadaches or stomach achesBeing more irritable, frequent meltdownsWithdrawal from friends, family, other activitiesDr. Raviv says if the anxiety is debilitating, it may be time to see a professional. For sophomore Ahmad, her school’s hybrid schedule, alternating in-person and online classes, has put her mind at ease for now. 2448

Thanksgiving may not have all the fixings this year. Most Americans are planning a scaled back event. But 75% of people told Butterball they plan to have a turkey the same size this year, as last year.“If you're looking for a smaller turkey, I would recommend shopping early to get what you want,” said Andrea Balitewicz, Butterball Turkey Talk-Line Supervisor. While many people are looking for some normalcy this Thanksgiving, 30% are hosting immediate family only.Butterball says there will also be more first-time hosts.“But there's also other products available like our turkey breast roasts, which are perfect for just a couple of people, or you can find the bone in turkey breast and that's a really great product too, and it's some for about six to seven people. So, it's a great product for smaller celebrations.”Butterball is planning the same offerings as usual. About half its turkeys will be in the 10-16 pound range. The other half in the 16-24 pound range.Walmart says it will have 30% more turkey breasts for those that don't want to cook a whole bird, even though they will have plenty of those.Kroger bought more turkeys than usual. It's predicting an increase in demand for alternatives.Turkey sales have been falling in general, according to Nielsen data. Last November they were down 3.5% from the year before. Sales for beef and plant-based meat were up. 1382

Taylor Swift is spreading the wealth this holiday season and helping some of those struggling to make ends meet during the coronavirus crisis. The pop star donated ,000 to two mothers who’ve fell behind on rent and other bills amid the COVID-19 pandemic, according to multiple reports.NBC News and Billboard report that Swift decided to donate to the struggling mothers’ GoFundMe pages after reading about their situations in an article by The Washington Post. One of the mothers, Nikki Cornwell, told The Post that she was ,000 behind on rent and she feared that she’d be evicted right after Christmas. The Nashville-based mom says she lost her factory job in March and came down with COVID-19 in May. She had been receiving 5 a week of unemployment, but that just ended.According to Cornwell’s fundraising page, Swift donated to her on Wednesday and wrote that she’s brave for sharing her story.“I'm so sorry for everything you've had to go through this year and wanted to send you this gift, from one Nashville girl to another. Love, Taylor,” wrote Swift with her donation. The second mother, Shelbie Selewski, lives in Macomb County, Michigan. She told The Post that she was ,100 behind on rent and utilities after losing her job as a medical receptionist. In order to make ends meet, the mom says she had to sell some of their belongings.Along with their financial troubles, Selewski told The Post that her new baby was born with a collapse lung, which puts the child at high risk for COVID-19.Like with Cornwell, Swift donated to Selewski through a crowdsourcing page.“No one should have to feel the kind of stress that's been put on you. I hope you and your beautiful family have a great holiday season. Love, Taylor,” wrote Swift. 1753
