Astronomers have detected the most massive neutron star ever, and it almost shouldn't even exist.Neutron stars are the smallest in the universe, with a diameter comparable to the size of a city like Chicago or Atlanta. They are the leftover remnants of supernovae. But they are incredibly dense, with masses bigger than that of our sun. So think of the sun, compressed into a major city.In the case of the newly detected neutron star, dubbed J0740+6620, it's 333,000 times the mass of the Earth and 2.17 times the mass of the sun. But the star is only about 15 miles across. It's 4,600 light-years from Earth. This is close to the limit of how much mass a compact object can contain before it crushes itself into a black hole. The neutron star itself is rapidly spinning, which is called a pulsar because they send out beams of radio waves from each magnetic pole. The beams mimic the sweeping motion of a lighthouse beam, hence the name "pulsar."Pulsars act like atomic clocks because they regularly pulse, so astronomers can use them to study space and time. The star was detected by the 1098

BAYTOWN, Texas — Texas State Rep. Briscoe Cain went to Facebook after seeing a homework assignment regarding U.S. President Donald Trump. The lesson was teaching 7th-grade students how to inference using 10 student-written essays at Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District. The assignment required students to read an excerpt from "Trump Against American Values" by Parker, and then answer the questions that followed. The first question asked, "Which of the following conclusions would the author most likely agree with?" The answer to the questions was, "Donald Trump should not be president."The second question asked what the reader would infer from reading the passage. The answer being, "Mexican Americans are the major group upset with President Trump."Cain said in his Facebook post that the superintendent of the district, Randal O'Brien, is aware of the issue and has taken corrective action. "It is our understanding the [sic] he and his administration have done all that state law allows them to do at this time," Cain said. "Superintendent O’Brien is and remains the right man for the job."Cain was made aware of the post by Chris Felder, a concerned parent at the school. “This was an assignment my 7th grade daughter received that I found to be very out of place to say the least," Felder commented, according to Cain's post. "This type of non-factual rhetoric has no place in our schools regardless of who the president is. My children have experienced great teachers in the classroom, but have also had to put up with those who see their role as indoctrinators, not educators. As a fellow graduate of Goose Creek ISD, I’m embarrassed that this is what our District tolerates.”Cain went on to say that no teacher should attempt to force their beliefs on students, and the teacher should be stripped of her title. As movie theaters nationally start to close amid the spread of the coronavirus, NBCUniversal announced a number of movies will be released on streaming platforms. "The Hunt," "The Invisible Man" and "Emma" will be available through streaming services at the end of the week. The movies will be available for a 48-hour rental period at a suggested retail price of .99 in the U.S.Also, "Trolls World Tour," which was slated to be released next month, will be on streaming platforms starting on Friday. “Universal Pictures has a broad and diverse range of movies with 2020 being no exception. Rather than delaying these films or releasing them into a challenged distribution landscape, we wanted to provide an option for people to view these titles in the home that is both accessible and affordable,” said Jeff Shell, CEO, NBCUniversal. “We hope and believe that people will still go to the movies in theaters where available, but we understand that for people in different areas of the world that is increasingly becoming less possible.”NBCUniversal added that it will continue to monitor the situation, and consider releasing more titles to streaming platforms. 1177
