It's been nearly 20 years since "Home Improvement" went off the air, but a new report indicates the show may be coming back for a reboot. One of the stars of the show, Richard Karn, told Closer Weekly that he spoke with Tim Allen about the show."I just talked to (Tim Allen) about it," Karn told Closer. "And I think (Pat Richardson) and the kids would be on board."The news comes after the successful reboots of shows like "Roseanne" and "Will and Grace."In March, Allen told Entertainment Tonight that the idea for a "Home Improvement" reboot idea has been floated around. He also said he would be on board with getting the gang back together."I like that idea. I still miss 'Last Man Standing.' We didn't get our seventh year. I adored that show," he told ET. "It's like having a new dog and now to go back to the old dog? I don't know. I like both characters, but yeah, I'd be very interested in that idea."Allen played Tim Taylor on the ABC sitcom which ran from 1991 to 1999. 988

It was her second time lying numb in a hospital bed in North Bergen, New Jersey, with blood streaming down her legs and fear creeping into her heart. At that moment, Timoria McQueen Saba thought to herself, "there's no way in the world that I'm the only woman who had this happen," she said.In 2010, after giving birth vaginally to her oldest daughter, Gigi, one late afternoon in April, postpartum hemorrhage or excessive bleeding -- the leading cause of maternal death worldwide -- nearly killed her. Then, about a year later, she started bleeding profusely in the small bathroom of a frozen yogurt shop. The blood was from a miscarriage, which left her feeling helpless in that hospital bed. She didn't know she was pregnant."I was all the way back to where I was the year before, and I realized ... I hadn't healed from the near-fatal traumatic experience the year before," said Saba, now the 39-year-old mother of two girls. The former celebrity makeup artist, who saw clients such as novelists Candace Bushnell and Kyra Davis, decided to become a maternal health advocate, speaking on behalf of the 830 women who die from pregnancy- or childbirth-related complications every day around the world. That's about 303,000 a year. Each year in the United States, about 700 to 1,200 women die from pregnancy or childbirth complications, and black women like Saba are about three to four times more likely to die of pregnancy or delivery complications than white women. The quick-witted, savvy Saba said the data shocked her."It really took me a while to digest it," she said -- she survived something that many others around the world haven't."What was different about me? Why didn't I die? What were the reasons for that?" she asked. "I felt like I have a duty to tell this story, to represent my race in a way that not many people can, because I lived through it."  1875

International auction house Bonhams has canceled an upcoming sale of rhino products amid mounting pressure from environmental groups, it was announced Friday. The auction, which was due to take place in Hong Kong next week, would have featured more than 20 antiques carved from rhino horn, including a vase, a hairpin, a pouring vessel and a variety of drinking cups.In a statement provided to CNN, Bonhams global CEO Matthew Girling said: "(We recognize) there are widely held concerns about this issue and have decided that the sale of the rhinoceros carving scheduled to take place in Hong Kong on 27 November will now not take place."An online catalog for the sale, which had been titled "Exceptional Chinese Rhinoceros Horn Carvings from the Angela Chua Collection," has been removed from the auction house's website.Girling also announced that Bonhams would join the likes of Christie's in barring rhino horn items from its auctions."In future Bonhams will not offer artifacts made entirely or partly from rhinoceros horn in its salerooms," the statement said. The decision follows objections from high-profile conservation groups, including WildAid. An online petition, addressed directly to Girling, called the auction "unethical" and "unsustainable," suggesting that the sale would stimulate poaching. The petition, which had been signed almost 10,000 times at the time of writing, also claimed that the sale was "quite likely illegal," and composed of "horns from recently poached rhinos" rather than antiques.Girling refuted such suggestions in his statement, claiming that all rhino carvings that pass through the auction house are antiques with "known provenance" and requisite licenses."Bonhams stands behind the professionalism and expertise of its specialists," he added. The use of rhino horn in Chinese art and crafts dates back millennia. Carved cups, such as those featured in the Bonhams auction, were thought to protect their users from poisoning. It was once believed that rhino horn reacted with poison, producing a fizzing that would alert drinkers to danger.Despite global efforts to combat poaching, antique rhino horn items can still be bought and sold if they carry a license issued by CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species).Bonhams, which is headquartered in London, is considered among the world's oldest and largest fine art auction houses. Rhino products previously sold by Bonhams include a cup dating back to the 17th century, which sold for 4,000 earlier this year.Rhino horn items recently sold at the auction house's UK salerooms include a Buddhist carving from Nepal, which went for £40,000 (,000), and another elaborate Chinese cup worth £25,000 (,000). Other lots have included snuff bottles and walking sticks.A senior specialist for wildlife programs and policy at Humane Society International, Iris Ho, welcomed Friday's decision."We applaud Bonhams for canceling the November 27 auction of rhino carvings and warmly welcome its pledge of not offering any rhino horn artifacts in the future," she told CNN in an emailed statement."The price to do the right thing -- choosing saving rhinos over profiting from rhino horn sales -- is priceless. The responsibility of ensuring the survival of the remaining wild rhinos, less than 30,000 of them, rests upon all of us."Conservationists, including Humane Society International, also mounted pressure on auction house Sotheby's to withdraw rhino horn items from one of its upcoming sales.A two-day Chinese art auction, set to take place at Sotheby's Hong Kong next week, had featured three rhino horn items with a combined value of up to 420,000 Hong Kong dollars (,000), according to an online catalog. As of Saturday, Sotheby's announced it would withdraw the three rhino horn related lots from the sale in an e-mail statement. Chairman of Sotheby's Asia Nicholas Chow confirmed the auction house would no longer offer rhino artifacts in the future. The outcry comes less than a month after China announced that it was relaxing laws prohibiting the sale of rhino and tiger products for "medical" purposes. 4134

It's the end of an era: Toys "R" Us is closing all its US stores. That's sad news for the employees, kids and nostalgic adults, but could provide bargain hunters the opportunity to snag a deal. The?news of the 735 store closures means shoppers can expect discounts as the retailer liquidates. A company spokesperson said Thursday the timeline of sales has yet to be determined. But Chuck Tatelbaum, a director with Tripp Scott, a Florida law firm, expects the discounts to happen pretty quickly."I think that the sales will run for up to 60 days, and the closures will have taken place by then," he said. "The rent obligation is just so high."Depending on the timeline, the sales could be modest at first. The biggest discounts will come later."They will start discounting more and more as time goes on," said Ray Wimer, assistant professor of retail practice Syracuse. "But it's a double-edged sword: The item you might want might not be there anymore, but the better deals come later in the process."He expects the discounts to start around 20-30%, but eventually climb to 75-80% off. Any purchases made during the store closing process are final sale, according to the company. While customers haven't been flocking to the retailer recently, Wimer said the closing news could spur more foot traffic."We will likely see an outpouring from folks remembering being at Toys "R" Us. I wouldn't be surprised if they get a lot of traffic all the sudden."Customers with gift cards or store credit need to act fast. A company spokesperson said Thursday that rewards dollars, Endless Earnings and gift cards are being be honored for the next 30 days.New York Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer wants the toy company to redeem unused gift cards for cash so "they are not as worthless and unwanted as a lump of coal in a stocking," he said in a release Wednesday. If you prefer to shop online, there are some added risks now. "If it comes damaged or it's not what you want, the opportunity to return it is going to be minimal, so buying online has a much greater degree of risk at this time," said Tatelbaum. 2110

INDIANAPOLIS — In a rematch from four years ago, Democrat J.D. Ford beat Republican incumbent state Senator Mike Delph. As of Wednesday morning, Ford had a six-point lead on Delph for Indiana's Senate District 29.Ford is the first openly gay person elected to the Indiana General Assembly. "I think it's really time for us LGBTQ+ Hoosiers to have a voice in our General Assembly," Ford said.In 2014, Ford lost to Delph by about 2,300 votes for the District 29 Senate seat. Delph had been serving in the Indiana state Senate since 2005. In November 2017, he was sent to Puerto Rico to help with the recovery from Hurricane Maria. In 2014, Delph tweeted his frustration about a delayed vote on a gay marriage ban. Delph championed the ban, which included language that would also bar civil unions. Delph lashed out at members of his own party, the media and the "self absorbed Godless culture that is fast tracking our nation to ruin."LGBTQ Victory Fund, an organization that works to increase the number of openly LGBTQ officials in government, released a statement celebrating Ford's win.“The Rainbow Wave has arrived in Indiana in a spectacular way,” said Annise Parker, president and CEO of LGBTQ Victory Fund and the former mayor of Houston. “Tonight JD made political history in becoming the first openly LGBTQ person ever elected to the Indiana General Assembly – a milestone moment for a state that was one of the few to have never elected an openly LGBTQ state legislator."According to the LGBTQ Victory Institute, there are currently four openly LGBTQ elected officials in the state: South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg, Indianapolis City-County Council Zach Adamson, Monroe County Circuit Court Judge Elizabeth Cure and Monroe County Community School Corporation Board of Trustees member Sue Wanzer.Ford will be the fifth."Yes, this is a historical moment, but it's not about me," Ford said Tuesday night. "It's about the LGBTQ+ Hoosiers and generations to come that can be proud of what we attempted to do and did do." 2136
